Hi guys I though I'd give everyone a heads up. Taxes in the US
aren't due until midnight on the 17th of April this year. April 15th
lands on a Saturday, so the government is giving you until midnight on the 17th
to get your taxes in. Easter is the 16th this year just as a note.

 Babs, come on, let'd get real here. What is the difference? Why wait until the very last minute?

I don't pay mine anyhow. I wait until they track me down. (make them IRS people EARN what they're getting from me)  LOL

Really surprises me though......  knowing them .... that they pushed it to Monday, the 17th rather than making them due posted.... Friday, the 14th.

I used to do that when I was a musician until a little problem came up in 1988.
Somebody actually put my SS# on a return as an employee.  Then I got to pay $4000 in back taxes and penalties.  Then I realized, "Don, that was a REALLY DUMB idea not filing all those years."  I've filed ever since obviously.  You've never come across that little problem of penalties?

Oh, me too. I was fibbing. (trying to act like a rebel, whatever ya wanna call it) I actually got a small federal refund..... spent it on the move into my new house.

State.... I gotta pay $1500 bucks this year. Dunno where that moolah is gonna come from. *??*  I'll let hubby handle it,  LOL , since HE is the one who claimed too many dependants last year anyhow. (while I claimed ZERO......)    Men!!

We used to do okay at tax season, we always had it set up to where we had enough held out that we'd kinda break even, or get a small refund. Then.... Lonnie worked for 3 years as an Independant Contractor..... and was 1099'd..... THAT wasn't pretty at tax time. Self Employement tax.... not a good thing. Live and learn, he started making tax deposits when we realized he needed to, then approached the boss that he had to switch to being a regular payroll employee or go bye-bye. (I think I told ya about that B4 Odie.....) So they put him on payroll. Now, he actually gets his benefits & vacation & everything. Much better this way.

I used to try that trick too of claiming extra dependants.  Also not a smart move unless you really know what you're doing.  Which foot does Lonnie usually kick himself with? Make sure he has a pointed toe cowboy boot on.  LOL

Actually, he usually kinda "gauges" it, until we see where about we might fall income wise for the year. (like, if I only work part time or something....)  Sometimes, he changes dependant count throughout the year. We just watch it. (apparently not good enough this year though)    That's the most we've paid for state.... almost double last years.

As an ex-avid Ham Radio Op, and Shortwave Listener, this guy had a fascinating show.  Around 1990 William Cooper was deemed one of the leading voices on Conspiracy theory, and brought up some fascinating stuff.. I wasn't aware until recently he died in a shootout with police trying to arrest him.

After years of filing FOIA requests and researching the IRS William Cooper
brought suit against the IRS in Federal District Court in Phoenix Arizona to
force the IRS to produce proof of jurisdiction and delegation of authority
which the IRS was unable to do. To short circuit Mr. Cooper's attempt to
reveal the true nature of the criminal IRS, and to carry out the orders of
the White House, the agency lied to a Grand Jury, not allowing William
Cooper to testify, and secured indictments against Mr. Cooper and his wife
Annie. This ploy successfully stopped Mr. Cooper from continuing his suit
against the criminal IRS for fear of being arrested.

I don't quite understand :headscratch: Please explain exactly what his claim was.

Amendment XVI - Income taxes authorized. Ratified 2/3/1913.
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

This is SOME of what Bill Cooper was claiming.  I haven't studied or thought about any of his claims since around 1990,  I don't recall any of this... but here's an idea.  You need to read what he's stating going back to the beginning. I'm not adept in any area's of Government. I don't remember any of this stuff... So perhaps someone more versed with this area can defend, or refute some of this.  I have no desire to.  I just found it interesting at the time I listened to his radio program.

I pay my taxes quarterly. I rarely get a return if I do it is applied to my next payment. I changed my wifes deductions so do don't get anything back next year. My return was filed Feb 1, 2006. I don't understand while people wait to the last min. I like to get it done as soon as possible.

I always laugh at those people I see on tv rushing to the post office and waiting
in line at the last minute. If you know you will be getting money back there is no hurry. The government penalizes you on what you owe if your return is late.
