I don't think so. The girl had a good voice. But sorry... stand her next to Chris in a concert and there's no doubt who the audience is going to remember.

Still reeling from this. Totally agree... she couldn't hold a candle to Chris' act. America votes, and the pop queen type beats out a rocker with killer stage presence and vocals... at least compared to her. That's kinda like Debbie Boonie beating out Freddy Mercury  ! Sorry... first comparison I could think of.

Wednsday nights are totally full of T.V. viewing trauma lately, between this and recent episodes of "Lost". A pox upon my girlfriend for getting me hooked on this stuff! LOL

Do we really need another pretty pop singer in music?!

Hey now - Katherine isn't the only person who beat Chris.

I was shocked too - I thought Chris would win for sure. But I don't hate her for it.
Besides she might not beat out Elliot and Taylor.

Let's face it I'm sure Chris will make a cd and he will do great. His music career has
just begun. I'll probaly even buy the cd.

First of all... why would you think that this is totally about talent?   Even though it's supposed to be a talent show, sex will win more times than not.   It turns into a beauty contest somewhere along the way.  Who will look better in the commercials and advertisements for the Idol show?   Sex sells.   Just like karaoke contests.  Watch the funny video shows.   This is usually how it goes.    First is babies/kids/animals, then sex, then guys.    Started with Adam & what's her name.  Will continue for as long at the human race lives.   If it was between a heavy girl and a "Barbie" doll who would win?    Life isn't as fair as you would think or like it to be.    That show has a budget and is run just like a money making business.   Don't expect it to be fair.    Fair doesn't always make money.    Good guys finish last...  They only come back next year if they made money.    Via selling commercials.  If no one is watching they don't come back.

OK, I really think this whole contest needs to be put into the hands of "professionals".
Right now, it's just a contest that involves who can get the most phone calls in to the
phone call center during the right period of time.  Is this a valid measure of who is the most talented?  I really don't think so.  It's a nice idea to think that the public can pick who's the best at the right time.  But I just don't think it would hold up in a court of law every time! :)  IMHO

One thing you guys are forgetting. This music has to apply to a large spectrum of people, not just punk rockers. AND IMHO chris was a PUNK rocker. Polls showed 68% of the votes came from the south. That's why it went this way. I predicted this yesterday.

Also tuesday night a lot of people watching were there just because it was music of THE KING. The wouldnt have voted for someone who wanted to turnuin it into a screaming pun rock song. Elvis fans like his music the way it was.

That's why it went this way. I predicted this yesterday. This is mostly true as far as the spectrum of people in general. Pop will beat out rock the majority of the time!

As for this comment??? Face it, they weren't even comparable to "Elvis"....But one thing you need to realize here is that they were simply doing what they had to do for the competition. Do you think any of them would have gone with an Elvis song? for real! Everyone's individual styles were reflected, which is what they were supposed to do....make it their own!....nothing against Elvis. If people want to hear Elvis music the way it is....then do you really think they should have bothered with watching AI??? It is part of the strategy of the show to challenge it's contestants in different genres of music that put them out of their comfort zone or else the voting would be ten times harder than it is now.

Even Simon said that Chris was better than Catherine!

That blew me away too.

Chris has never been my favorite, some nights but not every night. I didn't care for his "I'm the best" attitude. (which..... showed in his face last night when he was told he was going home....) He had that "There must be a big mistake" look about him at first.

But, I was NOT expecting him to go yet. I really thought the last 2 standing would be Chris and Taylor. Katherine..... is good..... but has made too many vocal errors and bad song choices. Elliot is getting better every time he performs, but he just doesn't have that "it" factor IMO. I've always rooted for Taylor, still do. He's just got charisma.

Truthfully, there's not a person on there I'd buy a cd of EXCEPT Taylor, I just like his style. But then, I don't care for most pop style music. And I had a tough time placing any genre on Chris, he seemed to sing everything alike, but I don't know what you'd call it.

But.... it's a shocker that he went last night. I was betting on Katherine to go, or possibly Elliot.

Karaokekim hit it on the head. A lot of Elvis viewers voting. Taylor and
Elliot were the best for that style of music.

Another thing is I think  katherine is getting Kellie's votes now.

Okay I'll admit it - I thought Chris and Taylor were okay. I voted for Katherine. I think a lot of people figured Chris had the votes, so they either didn't vote or voted for someone else. Plus there are peolpe out there that don't like his style of music
even though he has a good voice.

Yes I'm an AI Nerd. I'll probably go see Taylor Hicks perform someday at the House
of Blues and run into Charmin.  LMAO Go Soul Patrol

If sex sells, then Chris definately should have moved on. He's got the whole sexy stare thing down. But I'm a girl, so Kathrine's not really my type...

I'm not a big fan of Taylor's, but he did better than Kathryn, I thought. My gosh, she forgot the words to a very, very easy song! It says the same thing over and over again! She should have went home this week.

At least Chris has been consistent the whole competition. One time he's cracked. That's saying something for a guy who had to be told how to use his diaphram to sing on the show (I believe during Classic Love Songs week)! On the other hand is Kathryn, who's had years of training but has been inconsistent. She's been off pitch a number of times and forgotten the words to a song. I really liked Kathryn in the beginning, but she just seems like she's gotten progressively worse throughout the season instead of growing as Chris, Taylor, and Elliot have done.

I think Chris has been at a disadvantage because most of the genres that
have been sung are not in his style. It is incredible how he has been able to
create his own style with those genres. Another problem I've seen for him is
he sings hard which takes a toll on your voice. It didn't surprise me when his voice started to go out. He has put a lot of strain on it. As far as sex sells. Chris is HOT!

I keep making excuses for Katherine in my head because I like her voice. I really think nerves get to her. Fogetting the lyrics seems to show that. Yes she sings out of tune sometimes, but if you go back and listen to Kelly Clarkson in the old idol shows she does the same thing. I think
kelly Clarkson is phenomenal. Katherine reaches to her highest range. That is were she gets a little sharp. I don't know that the guys are pushing their range like her.
Chris seems to know his limitations. That isn't a bad thing.

I would probably defend all of them - except maybe Elliot(sorry Elliot) - Don't forget I'm an AI nerd.

I'm still confused how we are supposed to judge all these singers for AI.  What's more important -- the looks, stage presence and sex of the singer or the singing ability?  Are the singers supposed to accurately reflect the theme of the week or are they supposed to "make the song their own"?  Sometimes a singer get's criticized for sounding too much like the original ("oh, that's just karaoke") or he's criticized for taking the song too 'outside". Tommy Matolla (sp?) the Sony Music judge just paid attention to the singing abilities.  He didn't worry about their hair, clothes, looks or moves.  So what are the rules of this game?  Maybe it is all just personal preference with no real uniform judging criteria   I don't know!  LOL

I hate when they say it sounded like karaoke. That should be a compliment. LMAO
Odie I get confused by it too. I just know what I like to hear. From what I can tell they  want them to put some of there own style in the song, but I think that is a hard task when some of these songs are so well known. I think they want them to change it up as long it sounds as good or if not better then the original singer.

Simon seems to be the one hung up on look more than the other judges. It has been proven people are actually looking past looks. Look at Clay Aikin and Rubin. They definitely weren't the best looking idols. How about Elliot? He is no GQ and I don't even care for his voice and he is in the top 3.

YEah Elliot did better singing Elvis than the rest, but my god, he has to go.

Does Elliots vibrato sound like he is yodeling?  Can he hold one note from more than 3 seconds.  Betweens his runs and to much vibrato, I hate his sound.  Maybe E.T. will take him HOME!

If Elliot wins A.I., I will never watch that damn show again!!!!!

Good points there Babs.  I would hope that the majority of people will give actual singing ability more weight  than the looks and moves factors. I thought Simon was being way too snotty when he complained that Taylor's Jailhouse Rock was just bad karaoke.  I thought Taylor did the most credible version of an Elvis song that night.Everybody else "made the songs their own".  Which I guess is totally acceptable. The criteria still seems to be kind of up for grabs.  But whatever is going on seems to keep us on the edge of our seats and ranting and raving!  LOL  It's still fun stuff!

Well, I darn sure am not judging by "who's hot"........ LmAo........ or I would not be rooting for Taylor. Not my type at all I'm afraid. Now, Chris, on the other hand..... is very [shadow=red]HOT[/shadow].

You know, it seems everyone- here, radio, tv- everybody was surprised by the outcome. So it does make you wonder why Chris is gone. And....... Katherine was in the bottom 2 with him....... perhaps she's next to go?

Heaven help us all if Elliot wins this thing.  LMAO  (not that he doesn't have a good voice.... but come on.... he's just not, nor would he ever be....Idol material)

Doesn't that tick ya off? I know alot.... if not MOST.... of the contenders on this show most likely do karaoke.  I've been waiting for ONE of them to come back to Simon with a "Thank you, I love to karaoke". But I imagine they don't because they think it will lessen their chances. (then they'll get booted off the show... and go back to their regular karaoke venues most likely)  LOL

I don't watch the show, I hate it.    It's a repeat of the gong show without the gong.   If it was a real talent show, they would not show all of the people that can't carry a tune, as they do.   It's a night time soap opera.   Same story lines.    You watch the show to hear Simon make fun & pick on people.    To destroy them in a public humiliation.   You are sicker than the rest.    Most of them do suck and we don't need to see them on TV.    They created the controversy to make you act like you are now.   You will be back next week to watch the next chapter.    Jerks that like soap operas, will love the show.    Look how everyone is caught up in this thing.   Who gives a flip.    It's not about talent, that's just a disguise.    It's called "making Big money".   They just found a new way to do it.    Wish I'd have thought it up.   It's TV ratings time.   It's when they decide how much the TV commercial air time will cost.    If they had 3 guys as the last contestants they would lose all of the male audience.   Lost veiwers, equals lost money.     It's a business and sex sells.   They sucked you in and now they are sucking the money out of your pocket, everytime you watch it.

I DO NOT BELIEVE FOR ONE SECOND THAT IT IS A FAIR CONTEST.  Said it from day one.   I don't waste my time getting sucked into 3/4 of the crap they put on TV.    I.E. American Idol, soaps, game shows, survivor, etc.   Get a life.... Sounds like my loser neighbor....cuts his grass 2-3 times a week, for what?   I think he does it to get away from his wife.

You are right to talk about the "commerciality" of the songs sung.   The more main stream it is, the more votes you get.    Mass appeal sells.   So in a way, it's not fair to lump everyone into the same contest.   To be judged side-by-side.    He may be the next biggest thing to hit the recording industry.   But not judged beside her, being she was more main stream.

Mr. October, help us out here.   If your show consisted of all punk music, would you be making any money?   Very small demand for that show, right?    You have to be commercial.   It wouldn't mean you don't have any talent, just no work.

If you don't think it's fair or right.   STOP WATCHING, QUIT GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY.    Make them cancel the show.....  But quit crying about it.....my mouse pad is getting soggy.

Yeah, it is 99% commercial tv...... but it still draws a huge audience.

Is it just me.... or did anyone else think it odd when that lady requested Taylor to sing "Jailhouse Rock" again.... and they LET him? Even though it wasn't "scheduled in the show"?

I thought it was a prelude to him getting booted off. I think a couple of the other singers thought so too, by the looks on their faces.

But, maybe they are just "commercializing" him a bit more? I don't buy it that they just took an oddball request from some gal in the audience.

By my own admission, I'm not a big fan of the type of music Chris was into (I'm an Elliot man myself), even I recognized the talent he had and as he softened his edge a big and showed he could do other genres extremely well, I really warmed up to him a bit.   Why he was sent home is a bafflement.  One theory is the Chris fans might have felt he was so far in the lead they didn't vote...who knows?

Going strictly by rules, Kat should have left, although (and I get in trouble saying this) I don't especially think Taylor is all that "awesome" as they keep saying.  Elliot and Chris were the two finest all around performers as far as I'm concerned.

Bulldog, I disagree.  While that certainly seems to be the shallow norm of society and the media, at least in this case it is not true.  Otherwise, we'd still be bored silly listening to Ace and Kelly on Idol.  I don't think Elliot exudes what would commonly be termed "sex appeal" to the masses, and yet he's made it through on his talent.
