News article about folks turning to horses instead of cars due to gas prices....I'm glad I ain't the only one.

I think my horses just doubled in price. LOL

I wonder what would happen up here if a person was holding back traffic because he chose to ride a Horse tp work.  Most likely the cop's would hold up more traffic staring at the animal trying to figure out what it type of hybrid it is, lift up the tail to inspect the trunk, and after the horse took a dump on them go to the front to look for the emission's sticker. It wouldn't be hard to throw them off however.  Just put a "This vehicle climbed Mt. Washington" bumper sticker on the rump, and tell them "It's a Karmann Ghia" (60's model)

Well, I'm about ready to fire up the Sandrail and use it to go for groceries. Doesn't cost much to get them licensed for public roads here in Oregon. It's a VW engine, so would get WAY better gas mileage than my Bronco.

(you see, I don't have a horse, and my dog would never let me ride him to town)  LOL

I could always just walk to town.... and take Banjo along to protect me. But nah, then I'd have to leave him outside the store while I shopped, and sure as the world he'd bite some dang guy.... and I'd have a lawsuit on my hand.

He'd be good protection though. I live in a pretty small town, but there's gotten to be some bad fellas hanging around here lately. I'm pretty nervous to go out around by myself at night here anymore. This place is really losing it's "small town" appeal. Time for me to head farther into the hills I think. I can handle bears & mountain lions...... but not unlawful men, they scare the hail outta me.  And it's illegal here in Oregon to shoot them.  LOL

He's not a Saint Bernard....... haha. He's a Lab Retriever / Collie mix.
And I can sit on his back just fine. Don't know how he'd react if I dug my heels into his ribs though and tried to get him to trot.

Well you can't have everything.  Just wear fluffy slippers.  He won't feel a thing ! Dangle a steak in front of his mouth.

He wouldn't touch the steak though unless I told him to, haha, so that wouldn't work. I hate animals that beg, and animals that attack food the second you our it in their dish. He pretty much sits until I tell him to eat...... so, picture that:

Me on the back of a dog, dangling a steak in front of him on a fishing pole, yelling "Eat Banjo, Eat" all the way to the store.   Nah, I've decided to just.......take the dang Bronco again. Much faster & simpler that way. The gas I use from here to the store (probably a gallon= $3) ..... less than the cost of a good steak anyhow.

This steak talk has made me really hungry now, haha, I'm gonna go have me one of Subways famous meatball samiches.

WOW,  It's VERY tough to train a hungry dog NOT to eat food that you dangle in front of him,  or sit and eat in front of him...  We thought we trained our's, and ended up losing more casseroles, and meat dishes that way..  Leave it on the counter in their reach, and they'll levitate and find it.  I miss the animal rooms in AOL,  there were some amazing levitating Bassett Hound stories. Even the fat dogs can become waitless when necessary, and float up towards the kitchen counter.

Actually, he was taught that while he was still a pup. I can literally lay a piece of bacon on his nose & tell him "No", and he will NOT touch it until I say so. Now granted, if I were to walk away, I'm sure temptation would  take over.  LOL  But he minds very well. Maybe one of these days I'll send you a video clip of it. haha... It's very funny watching his big puppy dog eyes pleading to have it- and I don't do that often or make him wait TOO long. (I'm not mean or cruel..... he gets good treats often...... he's just a very good dog) And he's protected me on more than one occasion too, he's very loyal, and very keen to pick up when I'm scared or nervous about someone.  He doesn't do a bunch of fancy tricks or anything, just a few obedience things he was taught.

Exactly what I mean.  I think the instinctive drive to eat something like that is a very tough thing to teach an animal not to succumb to.  Leave him alone (somewhat hungry) all night with a smorgasboard full of nice smelling meat, and try to train him not to touch it.  LOL
