Can I sing karaoke through my laptop? I purchased a microphone today and plugged it in and tried to sing to some karaoke music files on my pc. I know the micropone works because I tested it through windows. How ever when I play  my music , I don't hear (me). I have external speakers hooked up as well, two spkrs and a sub. When I went through my sytems hardware wizard, (control panel, speech) it  was like I was trying to set up a microphone for speaking (like a phone) and not for like singing or broadcasting. I hope it's just a matter of configuring my mic? Thanks

Go to vol control ( the speaker icon next to the clock at the right hand corner) and make use the mic is not mute. Adjust the vol from there.

You will not get good result singing this way tho'

Ok, my volume is not muted, just checked. When I play my file, I don't have any microphone out put. I'm using windows media player to play my files. I think my computer is not recognizing the microphone? I'm not too computer hip.

does the music play?
I've found for desktop and laptop headphones increase the volume levels. I actually have to plug my headphones into the headphone jcak of my computer speakers to even hear the vocals coming out of the mike.
