Not too long ago, I "heard" someone on line say something about making accompaniment tracks using Winamp.   Has anyone tried this?  What are your thoughts about it?  Thanks!

I assume you start with a ripped song that have vox in it. Yes you can remove the vox with Winamp. You just need to download the plugin 'Nullsoft Signal Processing Studio DSP from here http://www.winamp.com/plugins/

But you will not get good result, but its free. Just give it a try.

edit: you may already have the plugin , check by going Option>Visualization>Select plugin> DSP effect

I used winamp for awhile but I heard a lot of bad reports regarding viruses.  All though I never got a virus I got a little gun shy.  I heard good reports about a site called LIMEWIRE so I switched and DL hundreds of songs from it.  You can get it free but if you want a bit more from it you can get the pro version.  I got the pro version and after did'nt think it was worth the bother.  Check it out as it don't cost anything and its very safe.
Regards Mikey

The post is about WinAmp not WInMX.  I use a front end and winamp for my karaoke & DJ gigs without a problem.
I have made karaoke songs using MTU's Vogone and Karaoke Home Producer.

I use winamp for a stand alone player. PC is NOT hooked up to the internet. When I rip my tracks, I use Audiograbber with the LAME_ENC.dll as my compression technique.

there is no virus issue with a stand alone unit. I use winamp on my home pc and I don't THINK I've ever had a virus issue due to WINAMP... but I'll be honest, stuff has leaked in, and I'm unsure if it's due to the antivirus I use or just normal stuff hacking it's way in. I'm not the pc guru that some folks are... so I can't just discount that virus issue for a pc hooked up to the net.
