Anyone ever play with these Google maps? Hybrid is pretty neat tool it gives you satellite views with street names and click grap map to scroll around. Here is a link to the Mosquito Pond near my Party Barn. http://www.google.com/lochp?hl=en&q=&ll=28.819908,-81.608012&spn=0.002176,0.003616&t=h Can you find my barn? Visit Karaoke Scene in Smoggy California? http://www.google.com/local?f=q&hl=en&q=5470+Orange+Ave,+Cypress,+CA+90630&ll=33.82425,-118.037442&spn=0.002063,0.005364&t=h Cypress? I grew up at Bushard and Garfield (The Fish Tracks) in Huntington! Back before the colonization of Main Street, progress for the yups I guess but it was nicer back when the hippies had it! |

On a clear day, under ultimate conditions, and from a drone, they could read a newspaper you have in your hand assuming you are outdoors.. It'd need to be a pretty low flying drone however. There are sites that WE can see area's of Iraq (as they are seen from drone technology) on the internet. Currently we also use the Predator Drones as a means of fighting.... |

Well for any conspirasists out there, satellites, do not have the resolution to read newspapers and certainly can not pick up licence plates (they couldn't get the angle to do so even if they could read them). Yes it will show buildings but can't tell you what's inside. It will not be able to tell you the model of vehicles unless they are very distinctive. The satellites for many countries are done on tender (usually the cheapest wins out). Even if satellites could do all these magical things we think they can do (because Hollywood portrays them as such, and remember Hollywood also thinks cars blow up all the time from just about anything) the amount of people and computers needed to analyse any worthwhile data would be astronomical. Further satellites take still pics not motion so that much more analysys is needed. |

Not so Tim, The MQ-1 Predator drone unmanned air vehicle also takes motion. The basic crew for the Predator is one pilot and two sensor operators. They fly the aircraft from inside the ground control station via a C-Band line-of-sight data link or a Ku-Band satellite data link for beyond line-of-sight flight. The aircraft is equipped with a color nose camera (generally used by the pilot for flight control), a day variable-aperture TV camera, a variable-aperture infrared camera (for low light/night), and a synthetic aperture radar for looking through smoke, clouds or haze. The cameras produce full motion video while the SAR produces still frame radar images. |

There are only a few areas where high res is availible but with services such as keyhole you can get fairly decent photos of an area.. The military has birds that they can count the dimples on a golf ball... |

Right Karaoker, The United States has the highest percentage given it's area of locations covered by high res. and I think that's just abit under 50% of the whole land area.... Not sure.... I went swopping into the colorado mountains, and found Melly's driveway..... |

Thanks for the link, I will take a look at it, it sounds simular to Google Earth, where you can travel the world, I did the Grand Canyon tour in tilt mode, pretty wild when you can do the same tilt in major cities with skyscapers, I can't wait til technology gets it even better. The applications are endless, being retired army, i can see where this technology is taking them in the future, recon on a pc in real time is on the way. Enjoy! |

To a degree with camsites, I travel all over even now... Large bridges, vegas, eiffel tower, beaches you name it, was at gator world down in florida just last week watching the critters waking up, I also go to strip clubs, even small private ones, and goof on the other guys watching ..I have three cams and can take you into my studio, bedroom, or dining room, but won't gross any of you folks out. Interesting thing, Take Google eart to the eiffel tower, and you will never see it standing directly 90 degree's from the ground, Also try to zoom into certain bridges. They don't have straight decks when you zoom in, the roadway follows the contour of the land, especially in mountainous areas.... Go to some area's in New York City, and you can Zoom down INSIDE buildings, and get to within 5 feet of a parking space. I've gone to Mt. Rushmore, not easy to see the presidents profiles. I've been to Yosemite <google earth> now that's fun navigating, but try to find Mt Everest in Nepal You'll be surprised how difficult it is |

Funny thing, when I zoom on my house there is a white car in the driveway and I have never owned a white car....Hmmm...Perhaps it was someone visiting that I don't know about... But it is weird because when I go down a major road by my house ALL the cars are white..... |

that's because from the range that the satellites are taking the snapshot, there are no bluewaves to create a color distortion. the human eye uses these bluewaves to distort light refractions into the various colors of the spectrum that we are use to seeing. that is the reason that everything outside of our atmosphere is in black and white. all of the color shots you see of space on TV are enhanced with color. that is why the nebulas and so forth are so brilliantly colored. how's that for a bullshirt answer? LMAO |

Unless Google Maps has updated their images recently, the last time I looked at them, the pictures were several years old. New construction that had been in this area for a couple years wasn't on those pics. |

You know, that's true........ I couldn't post the link here, even after using that site to look up my own addy...... the link I was posting would take you directly to the one he listed. (wierd....??) But yeah, I see the differences. It shows my house as a green patch of lawn amongst a bunch of empty fields....... now, those fields are full. And, they are putting a new housing division in on this street. (ACROSS the street, thank heavens...... so I wont have any neighbors beside or behind me)...... it looks very different here already than the aerial shot I saw. Hi Dave. |

They are nearly 5 years old in my area on google, If your intested in updated views, go to your County's GIS website or to your County Appraisal and Tax. At mine Lake County FL, I can get 2004 views and can search by name or address and find out who owns it, how much they paid and when, previous owners and map it all from one location. So county websites should have the current information. If anyone needs a hand finding their county gis, let me know; I might be able to help. Enjoy! |
