Yeah,  When Hong Kong was British, thing's were different than now, Since the '97 handover, thing's aren't the same I suppose.

BadSinger,  Probably not unusual in certain area's in the East.... Yet as you know, that's pretty strict...  Were things that strict in Hong Kong when it was more Westernized ?  Quite a few restrictions on what is, and is not allowable. I wonder if pre-1997, thing's were that strict.

Karyoker, this is the part that cracks me up !!!!   I laugh equally as hard each time I see this one !

(sorry, I'm just being goofy)

Badsinger..I too didn't see anything unusual about that info. Basically it looks like a carbon copy of how it is in the USA.  Resturants in the US are required to have entertainment permits in order to have karaoke. Also required to follow the same fire regulations like in Hong Kong and all of these are to be inspected by the government. If you serve food, you need a permit for that as well and if you are going to serve alchohol..you are required to have a permit for that as well. There are alot of resturants that do NOT want karaoke because they can not afford the permits. When I lived in California..I used to go to a resturant there that had karaoke. The owner told me that a permit to have karaoke..would cost him $5000 for every 3 months. Also have to adhere to the strict regulations that they have to stop before midnight or else you need another permit for that as well..for having a nightclub. To be granted all of this you have to adhere to a satisfactory sound level as well and you should not have any residential areas nearby your karaoke venue.
And the list just goes on and on...Anyways I didn't see anything weird about that link, just like Badsinger said.

Well, in my country you need an entertainment  licence to run a karaoke establishment. All karaoke clubs are full time. The licence is issued by the City Hall.
If the place serve food then a Restaurants licence is needed.

Then there is, PPM Licence (Public Performance Malaysia) , and  MACP Licence, (Music Author's Copyright Protection).

I don't think the situation in Hong Kong is any different from that of  my country.

Hong Kong before 97? The British were famous for using licensing as a mean of control in all her colonies. Need I say more LMAO

BadSinger,  I don't know if, and how Hong Kong changed law's when the British government handed it back to China about 8 years ago. It was a free republic when under British law wasn't it ?  I just made the assumption that it would lose some of it's freedom's once back under China's ruling. Have no amount of autonomy any longer.

Actually Wheetes response was what I was looking for Its lamazing how many laws are  passed and licenses are required and it has nothing to do about public safety or community good. It is about money and control... And the more rediculous they are the more they are ignored by the masses.  Its absolutely amazing how exxon has the president of the USA in their pocket....

I don't want to turn this into a politics thread, but you don't think food and drink licenses have anything to do with the public good?

:) There is nothing wrong with that Tom. A few weeks ago somebody told me in a bar "We dont talk about politics and religion here" I replied " I'll tell what son we better start talking about before we lose every freedom we got And by the way dont begin to think you can tell me what I can talk about I'll kick your scrawny (@$%&#!)" Now that I got that out of my system LOL

No it seems with every new town board on up they contunue to add and pass new laws.. Fifty years ago we had adequate laws and inspections of public stores that provided meals. But.... New ones were passed that benefitted chains Like macdonalds and others... For generations farmers wives brought chickens and eggs into town to sell and help feed her family.  For years now the only chicken you can buy is fed strycnine to fatten them up early... (next time you eat chicken look at the bones they are black)  now in co She needs a license to sell eggs . Can you tell me what f** purpose that warrants a license to sell eggs that are fresh? The health board in cities counties ans states are controlled by big money...

:) Response?  Just some good sittin on the river bank talkin Tom...

EDIT: And they hide all these new things with smoke screens and get the radicals arguing about abortion, smoking, drugs, sex, why we are in iraq and the commander in chief of the greatest military lying, should I go on?
