Years (well maybe decades) ago when I sang Hank Snow I sounded like Hank Snow..But since I have done hundreds of songs before I even heard the original version. Then years ago some gal at a show blew me away with Gayles Cry....I sang it and sang it up 4 keys until I could nail it. That increased my range so that one night I got up to sing Movin On by Hank Snow..... I didnt sound like him!!!! I really have to concentrate to mimic anybody anymore....So the moral is go a few months and sing all new and never sing the same song twice... You will have your own style...

. The best singers/vocalists that do karaoke do their own renditions. You will truely never sing a song to your best ability until you stop mimiccing the original artist, because you will never be as good as the original singer unless you sing it comfortably in your own style/ability. If you can manage to do that, then you can even sing it better than the original artist, if you are good enough. Mimiccing is good for the average singer, it is a good way to learn how to sing. Best tip is to try to atleast hit the ballpark and capture the essence of the song. If you sing Barry White..then you better sing it with a deep low voice and so on. If you sing Unchained melody..try to hit the high note in the song etc..other than that it is free game. Karaoke is about having fun and not putting any pressures on yourself. Karaoke is for the singers own enjoyment, not the audiences!
