AS990 dual wireless... utterly a fantastic mic set. For about half the cost of a dual wireless Shure system.

I've handled the Shure's, but never field tested them. The ones I had at a karaoke joint were so beat to crap I never liked them. Which is odd, cause Shure warrenties their products... ya think the restaurant would have sent them in for repair/replacement!

I use a 58 but somewhere along the way  picked up a Shure access 1 which I like just as good or better than the 58..  Then I use an access 3 for announce mic ( i think it is more of an istrument mic) dont have the highs like the others... Got a beta 2 havnt used for awhile its decent not as good as the others...

Hi Jesse.  the Shure SM58 is probably the most versatile "all around" mic on the market. It's certainly the most widely used performance mic ever - has been for many years. The problem is that microphones are very subjective instruments. A mic that sounds great on one singers voice may not sound as good on another singer. Here's a link to a forum that may help shed a little light on the subject. Nice friendly, and knowledgeable people. Happy hunting....Lee.

To be honest, I can't tell the difference between my SM-58, SM-57, SM-48, 565, or headset Audio Technica Pro-8HE..  With a little bit of PA tweaking, they all seem to sound about the same... I also never asked vocalists which microphone was their preference either... I wonder how many of you would know the difference if you were singing into a Shure SM-48, or SM-58....I can't hear a difference...

Karyoker, I know we were discussing the dif between the 565 series, and the SM-58.. Yet on the Shure Site, the spec's look quite comparable for these two microphones..... For some reason the Shure 565 sell's for quite abit now....I haven't a clue why....Is it discontinued, and less available ?  The replacement cartridge for that microphone is about 90 bucks...LOL, I can get another new SM-58 for that price

I dont know for some reason they came out with the beta series for small bands then discontinuedThey came out with the  accsess series then discontinued The sons of silence (mean biker s) got away with a grill from an access one The only thing I can tell you is this.. 57 the guitar cabs A cheaper mic works on the drums although double mic... I got some $40 dollar mics you cant tell the difference I have a system that doesnt depend on any one component I could put a cheap $20 mic on it and make you sound good... I can pull the biggest mitcthel camper out of the mud with a military jeep with the old 4 banger... a pro can work with what he has got because he didnt have all these modern products and bullshit when music was music..

I really like Audix and Audio Technica. They are very durable and give great sound.
Of course Shure would be my first pick, though.

Sennheiser 835.  For inexpensive great sounding mic an Apex 850, under $40 Cdn and includes mic clip and 15' xrl to xrl wire.

I can't really say what my favorite is because I've only worked with one mic that I really liked (and not many others to compare it to).  I have what most people on here have.. a Shure SM58, while not a studio condensor made for recording, it's still a very reliable and durable mic with good sound.  It's what they used for live performances at my university, and what I use to record with now.  IF I could get my dream mic that isn't too expensive, I'd like to try a condensor mic like a Rhode NT1 which is supposed to be a GREAT studio mic for the price.  Of course, I'd love a neuman or a blue bottle, but those are a weeee bit out of my price range lol
