I am looking at this drive (external DVD-R +CDR drive)  The specs say READ only for CD+Gs... Or is this just some sort of legal protection ploy?

yeah, we've been discussing on the site that Plextor on some of their models will no longer support cdg burning/ripping.

Plextor 740 is BenQ drive with Plextor badge -- it does not support internal CD+G encoding, so will not work with CDRWin.

It works fine with Power CD+G Burner software though.

speaking of which, I turned a friend onto your program, and he was able to get it to rip software that Audiograbber wouldn't recognize the new drive, nor would the newest cdrwin.

Congrats.

Thanks :D

The biggest problem right now are the laptop drives. There is a lot of laptops equipped with Matshita drives... and they are rubbish. It is impossible to read nor write CD+G subcodes with them. And a lot of Sony Vaios come with them. So if anyone is getting a laptop -- make sure there is no Matshita drive in it, or it will be useless for ripping CD+Gs.
