Yes... I had two gigs this weekend... unusual... a DJ gig on Friday night and a Karaoke gig on Saturday.

The Friday gig went great! Lots of referrals! I get to the Saturday gig early... @ 3:30 PM, when it is supposed to go from 5-9PM. I setup everything... turn on the laptop........... and it doesn't turn on!  :(

I check the thing... upside down... nothing seems to be loose... I had just used the laptop to rip some new CDG's into Hoster... It's now 5PM...

Luckily... about 2 months ago... I bought a refurbished Dell laptop for cheap @ EBay... I call my wife and she brings me the backup... Not as fast, not as fancy... but the gig went on without a hitch... Luckily I didn't completely lose it and start running around screaming like a lunatic... I tried to remain calm... didn't say anything to the clients...

The party turned out great... Lots of referrals!

Lesson learned? I will ALWAYS carry my backup laptop and HD with me to EVERY gig...

About the new malfunctioning Dell... which is under warranty... was looking for a tech support number on their website and only found a chatting link... WHAT HAPPENS IF THE BROKEN COMPUTER IS MY ONLY COMPUTER? Anyways... it turned out to be a loose memory module... I'll know better next time...

Thanks for listening...

which is why I love my desktop, because when I boot up, I see the errors, and I know how to get into it and fix the errors that pop up IF they pop up.

Glad you gotthe problem fixed. Reseating is usually a first step in solving any computer woes! LOL!

Glad you had a backup!  stories like yours are one of the reasons i am scared to death of going totally digital.  even with a backup i'd be nervous every gig!  glad yours was able to go as planned!

my story with dell is this.....had problems with my wife's laptop as well.  keyboard problems.  hate to say it about a company that makes it's product less tha 3 miles from my house, but i will not buy any more dell computers.  their customer service is horrible. i had th threaten to take the laptop to michael dell and drop it on his desk before anything got done.  incedentally, since my company works on the dell buildings i know exactly which office is his, and don't think for a second that i wouldn't have marched in and dropped the piece of crap computer on his desk!

I have been digital for nearly a year... not ONE problem that I couldn't overcome with the computer. Had a couple issues, yes, but nothing that wasn't fixable by reseating cards, rebooting and watching to see where the errors are!

I've had MORE issues with the amp that suddenly I have a lose connection, bad cords, etc.

I have all Dell computers at the office and home. Any on line help is for poo. I hate when I'm talking to
customer service and I seem to know more than they do. Or they have to look it up in some book they are using and Have know idea what I'm talking about. I usually figure it out myself by trial and error.
