Any KJ's or performers use booking agents ?

Here is the reason I ask-- Every week when I look in the local entertainment paper , I notice the same BANDS and CLUB DJ's playing all over the state they just rotate venue to venue and all are "represented" by some type of Agency.  They are playing  the LARGER venues and clubs and resort type areas usually on the Fri/Sat/Sun schedule.
I am assuming they are making a decent DOLLAR and wonder if an agent can book gigs for a "Professional "Karaoke Show at some of these larger type places??
Maybe during the week ?   Anyone have an experience or ideas?

Making a decent $$, not always.  Many bands play for exposure & unless they are good, they aren't going to make money at it.
I knew of a karaoke company that went through an agent locally & they got steady work - sure, however, the gigs were usually paying peanuts & over 100 miles away sometimes.

I thought about doing that too....

In a large surbaban area, it make work...But here in Iowa, for what I would have to pay a "booking agent" I could take a day off work, and beat the bushes myself for work.

Plus I get most of my big $$$ from weddings and private parties, which is all advertised by word-of-mouth.  Nothing better than a good recomendation from someone thqat has hired you before.

Anthony

I was in a pretty decent local band for the better part of 2 years and we went through booking agents from time to time (they usually hunted us down as opposed to us finding them). They would basically book a gig and take a 15-25% cut. Since we were basically just a local cover band, that meant they'd usually book us for about $300-600 and leave us with 4/5 to 3/4 of that to split between the 4 of us. Booking agents usually have set relationships with certain clubs and also get another cut on the other side of the coin as well.

I would only assume for a karaoke gig that they would look at booking you at around a rate like $150-$250 dollars and take a good $50-100 of that right out of your pocket...

Like Lonman said, hardly worth it unless you need the exposure or are jsut desparate for gigs...a steady gig where you know the money is coming in sure beats roaming the state for any price in my opinion....

The average bar gig around here is paying $150 for a 4 hour gig.
I am thinking some of the larger venues could pay double ?
Giving an agent even 20% would still give me $90 a night more?
Obviously I wouldn't want to use an agent and not get
#1 more steady work
#2 better paying gigs.

Like was said , maybe agents have some better relationships with different types of venues - and shows.   ..I don't know ...just thinking  :thinkin:  :thinkin:
