I would guess that everyone has a different approch as of what to put in the "Keraoke Rules" of their book. Other than No rude talk on the mic, Keraoke is a fun thing so please be kind to the singer, song slips : Sing one and bring one, What do you have on your rules page?

I'm not a KJ, but I think I've seen a thread like this here before. They're always interesting to read........ since I'm not a KJ I like to see what kinds of answers they give.

I do go out to karaoke, and I'm thinking I need my OWN set of rules, for the KJ's to follow. Maybe I should just put it on a karaoke t-shirt and wear it every time I go out........ Maybe something like "Just Give Me The Mic & Nobody Gets Hurt"

Okay, I'll leave you KJ people alone now to have your own discussion.

Hiya Derfus.    I haven't seen you around her much- nice to meet ya.

These are ours.  I have used these for years & have seen other companies adapt some (if not all - word for word) as well.  Most are standard though.

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with our rules...

*Please turn in one request at a time.
*When you SING ONE, BRING ONE.  This will keep your place in the next rotation.  If you do not turn in a slip before the start of the next rotation, you may miss your turn & will have to wait another round.  Sorry, duets WILL COUNT as one turn for each singer.
*New singers will have priority their first time up.  They will be mixed in with the old singers 1 old, 1 new.  Once a new singer sings, they will wait their turn like everyone else.
*Anyone discovered submitting slips under a different name to "Defeat" the rotation will be removed from the rotation & not allowed to sing for the rest of the night!
*Please be courteous to all performers.  Please applaud after each & every singer before & after their performance.
*Rudeness will not be tolerated!  Give the same respect to performers as you would like to see for yourself.  To get up & sing in front of people can be very intimidating if the crowd isn't encouraging.
*Please do not use obscene language over the microphone.  You will be asked to leave the stage.
*Please do not swing the microphone by the cord.  Not only is it bad for the cord, but the microphone could fly off & hit someone.
*If a dance floor is available, make full use of it.  There are many varieties of dance music on karaoke.  We will occasionally put some dance music in if we get enough requests for it.
*At times a rotation may get a little long.  PLEASE BE PATIENT.  Your turn will eventually come.  Remember also, "YOU WHINE, YOU WAIT!"
*The most important thing to remember is we are all out to have fun.  Either singing or just listening, please support the club you are in.  Coffee, Water, & Soda do not pay for the cost of ALLOWING YOU to sing at their establishment.  If you do not drink, try a virgin drink or order a food dish (when available).  PLEASE show your appreciation of your servers.
**Remember if your favorite karaoke club does not make money, they will not continue the service for you!!

Rules: I hate the word but they are necessary.
1-) No Hitting On My Microphones, they are electonic and will be damaged
2-) No Screaming into My Microphones, loud singing-OK, SCREAMING-NO!
3-) Be Polite To Every Singer, Applause Is Appreciated By Everyone
4-) Foul Language Will Not Be Tolerated [u]Unless It's Part Of The Song
5-) Be Patient, Your Turn Will Come, Don't Come Up Every 5 min. And Ask; "When Is It Going To Be My Turn?"
6-) Fill Out The Whole Request Slip: Name- so I know who to call, Song Title-so I know what you're going to sing and song number- so I know where to find the song and get the version you want to sing.
7-) NO DRINKS ON STAGE! I don't want you to spill a beer down the front of the singers monitor. It cost $450 and liquids poured into the front, will destroy it!
8-) Do Not join someone on stage if they didn't invite you, I will not give you a microphone. It's their turn. If you want to sing, turn in a request slip.
9-) Anyone direspecting the singers or the equipement will not be allowed to sing and MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE.
10-) Drink, Party, and Have Fun!

We do not have a rule page as experience has shown us people do not read them, they go straight to the music.  To us the rules are mostly common sense and if something wrong is done, we just educate the singer on what they did wrong.  Most people, at least around here, are courteous of others and people who do silly things (hit the mic or yell) really don't know and after it being explained, don't do it anymore.

Don't tap the mic heads
Don't swing them by the cords
No screaming into the mics
No foul lang...if its in the song...okay...
No heckling_if asked more than once to stop. Owner will ask you to leave

I have sort of the view Timber does, but lately I'm thinking maybe I'll add one. I know they will not read the rules if I put them in the books, but it would be nice to have something to back up what I say.

For instance, if someone pukes while singing and I tell them, once you puke your no longer allowed to sing. Now if they start arguing with me about the fact they want to sing again I can refer to the rules in the book and if that doesn't work hit them with it.

First of newbie her to this site...

I would agree with timber.  The wife and I have been doing Karaoke for about 10 years now, and have never had a RULES section in our books.  It is mostly common sense.  If a person does something wrong, they get told not to do it again.  2 Times, they get warned, if it happens again they are banned.  We have only had one person get banned in recent memory for swinnging the mics.  Guess if I would swithch to cordelss they couldn't swing em.

Regards,
Anthony

Karaoke Rules and Etiquette:

1.) Duets are a turn for BOTH singers (you’ll only get up the ONE time that rotation)… any questions on this, ask the Karaoke Host

2.) No Heckling of the Singers is acceptable!! It takes a LOT of courage (some of it Liquid!!) to grab a mic and sing over a pair of speakers. PLEASE be courteous!

3.) Please don’t thump on the microphones, nor blow on the head. If you have a wired mic, please don’t spin it by the wire. Please don’t toss them in the air… they’re very expensive!

4.) Try to not stand in front of the Television… that’s where the karaoke graphics are displayed!

5.) Basically, if you break it, you’re paying for it!

Actually I don't have a "RULES" page in my book, but I do have a page that's titled "Karaoke Etiquette". Although most information on the page is common sense, there are a lot of people that suffer from a severe lack of common sense. I also know that most people just ignore that page but I feel that it should be in mysongbook. I will from time to time point out it's exsistance and suggest that everyone read it. I have also had a good number of people mention it to me and say that it's a good idea, especially for people new to karaoke. All in all, it's just a matter of personal preference as to what you want in your songbook. I also have a small sign under the tv monitor asking the singers not to hit/tap or scream into the microphones.[b]

I also have screen shots that flash across my tv... reminding folks of the basic "rules"...

I'm making a rules sign for the bar I work in. I'm using a lot of your ideas and
modifying them to fit my venues atmosphere.

I'm glad this thread was started I think it is a great idea.

I will although be posting the rules in plain sight instead of in the books.

Thank you for all the ideas -  :D
