Post subject:  Need some info on connecting laptop to mixer and backing up and burning CDGs Please...

Again, I have to thank you all for the info previously given to me...But now I have more
questions if ya'll can help me out.

I plan on using my laptop as well as two RSQ MK22 Players.  I need to know how to hook the laptop up to the Mixer.  I only have USB ports available, and a headphone jack on my Dell.  I was looking at a Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro USB Audio Adapter Model: TBS-1120 on Best Buy's website.  Would this work well?

Also, I am wanting to do some burning and saving of some CDs / Files.

I bought the sound choice foundations, and a crap load of other collections.  I want to figure out how I can save them to my hard drive (I am going to purchase an external hard drive for my files, as I only have a 30GB internal)

I also want to burn copies of the expensive disks (like soundchoice) as I have already noticed a few small scratches.  Any trick to burning them?  They need to be ripped or whatever ?

I also wanted to take the files and create my own karaoke mix CD that I can take with me anywhere.  What do I need to do to make the files work in most players.  I tried to burn to a CD and all I got was the music, no video lyrics.

Thank you all for your continued help...   D.J.

I'm not sure which Dell you have in their test the on board crystal sound fusion scored very well... The turtle would work..  Well?  It would suffice and would certainly be one to try... The indigo or something in between gives the added option of record in capabilties.  I'm just thinking downstream and after playing with several onboard audio systems and comparing to "better"  ( I currently use the M-Audio Delta44) from experience  I recommend a better quality sound board... I can hear the difference with the headphones laying on the floor

  :)

I have a Dell Inspiron 1150.  On my control panel, it looks like my sound card is Sigma Tel Audio....Whatever that is.  Ok, so I probably need a good external sound card.  I also want it to have the ability to record performers.

Any info on burning my CDGs?

You just answered your own question. Headphone out to mixer in (stereo) The Dell internal soundcards are pretty good for playback.

I would recommend the Audigy2 ZS Notebook PCMCIA card, excellent card, it comes with the EAX Console, you'll be able to use the best key changer and if you wish, the FX from EAX!

You'll need a software that can handle the MMC Deinterleave mode to see if your reader is compatible.  MTU now has Hoster which can handle this mode, but what you would need is Microstudio and it's NOT ready yet, it will only handle the Plextor brand because it uses the old method. I suggest you first download the Hoster Demo to check if your reader can read the data (graphic). If not, you'll need an external drive and Plextor would be the recommended brand.

Good Luck!

I would not recomend the Audigy2 ZS PCMIA card.  I tried it and it was complete crap.  the built in sigmatel on my dell was better, and at $100 usa, way to expensive.  I would recomend a VERY CHEAP alternative is the Soundblaster MP3+ USB external sound card.  I use them for all my shows, and the sounds is great and cheap (about $15 on Ebay)

As far as CDGs...I doubt if the CD player in the dell will wsupport a CDG disk.  What I would recomened is converting all your CDGs to MP3+G files, and then they are able to play on winamp with the CDG plugin.  No need to buy expensives software to have Karaoke on your computer.  You can find gobs of info on converting here...http://www.karaokeplayground.co.uk/

Well, I don't agree with you at all when it comes to the Audigy Card! I was using the Audigy2 ZS on my desktop before and I did compare the performance with the laptop version and it was identical.  You obviously had a conflict somewhere on you Dell!  A standard SB will not compare with any Audigy BTW!

I don't see why you're saying his player can't read CDG's, have you tested it before???  How can he convert to mp3+g if he can read CDG's???

I said I DOUBT if the CD player in his dell will support CDG disk, and probably an 90% chance it doesn't.  He will have to check the specs of his CD player to see if it supports CDGs.

ANd as far as converting, if his CD player does suport CDG, he cna convert to MP3+G format (which he wants to do anyway), or purchase a plextor drive that will support the CDG format, and convert the CDGs.

And the sound card.....I ran  the SB MP3+ and AUDIGY PCMIA card side by side on the same system, and the sound from the sound blaster was better IMHO.  I did try both, have you?

Sorry if I have offended you, it is not my intension, only to provide a different opion, and let the origional poster decide which route to go

ahhh, back to the old Audigy VS Sound Blaster debate! heheheh

And this is why some folks get confused. Even the "experts" have differing opinions. Doesn't make it right or wrong. I personally use the Soundblaster mp3+ device too... With the new USB mixers out there, (which I just got the Numark one to test on it), I hope to eliminate that device! USB to mixer! YEAH baybe!

Mikey, the cdg aspects can be tested just by going to www.goldenhawk.com and seeing the list of compatible cdg burners. And if it's not listed, I do believe it can be gotten past by using Powerkaraoke's software...  which claims to work on almost all burners!

Now, I have NO knowledge on this, but I can read a manual! LOL!

I personally use Plextor burners that are recognized easily by CDRwin... and I use Audiograbber for a ripping solution!

I know what you mean about the SB vs Audigy... I'll stay out of it!

but when it comes to cdg compatible drives, that's different! If you use CDRWin of Microstudio to test, you'll get the same result, both software uses the same driver and the old way of reading the data.  Now, there's a new way of reading the graphic part and it can only be done if the software uses the MMC Deinterleave mode which means, over 80% of ALL drives become cdg compatible, even if it doesn't say in the spec! Not all drives will give you the good result of a Plextor, that brand is the best on the market and can read the graphic part perfectly including the models that were made by Ricoh for Plextor.

Hoster now uses the MMC Deinterleave mode, I bet you the Dell can now read cdg? My Delll Inspiron 4100 can, my old NEC DVD-Rom can and of course my new Pioneer DVD-RW is fully cdg compatible even tho CDRWin, Microstudio & Nero says it's not!

Finally, we have more option to enjoy Karaoke!

These are the software that reads CDG using the MMC Deinterleave mode:

Alcohol 120% (extracts & copy)
CDG-Ripper (extracts & comes with database)
Karawin Pro (direct reading & extraction)
Audiograbber (extration only, no database)
Hoster from MTU, the best in it's class but not cheap!!

Probably more but haven't tested them!  These most common brands like Winamp, Microstudio, CDRWin are still using the old mode which means, most Plextor models ONLY!
