I use Music Book Deluxe to make my karaoke books. I make one book "by artist" the other "by title".  I split the books up because I have so many songs. I make the pages double column which I think is pretty standard. If I did single column my books would be way to big. People complain the print is to small to read that they need their reading glasses. I can read them just fine, but don't wear glasses.

I get this complaint a lot. I can't make the print any bigger without making my
books enormous. Do any of you have this problem?

I thought of attaching a little magnifying lens to a couple books, but haven't found one that works. I thought maybe I could find a key chain one - that would work. No luck yet.

We use Arial 14 and we do it in bold.  Our catalogs are @ 180 pages and we house them in large three ring binders (we take 6 binders to the shows and disperse them on the tables).  We too, print by both Song Title and Artist.  In my opinion, It's really a lot more important that people can read them (especially the numbers) than trying to keep the catalogs small or compact.  Bars and Clubs are always poorly or dimly lit.

this is our format ... (well close, they don't have Arial font here ... but this is pretty close).

Then again... if I did have to look thru a catalog with small print... I'd just put on my glasses....   :D

My books are 24 point Arial bold, and I've never had one stolen yet..

At 1245 pages, each book has a "Dolly" to move it to the tables..  LMAO

For people who need reading glass, any thing below 14 is unreadable under low light and without glass. I ALWAYS have a reading glass with me so its not a problem. The problem is they that those who need one borrow mine and forget to return it. I lost a few that way.
May be its a good idea for KJs to have a few reading glass with them for those who need it. Get a cheap plastic one; they cost less than $10. each.

I use 10 books.  Double column. bold Arial, 12 pt.  2 books are by Title and 8 by Artist.  I would say only about 1 in 20 ever want the title book.  Most people know who they want to sing, but don't always remember the title.  At first we combined artist and title books, but over the years found as I said that Artist listing is the most preferred.

Are you sure about that? How many doubles are there? Does your book show 17 versions of Wind Beneath My Wings? I have 1 master book which shows all versions, and I keep that book with me, then the patrons get the books without doubles. If they want a specific version, they can ask.

I worked very hard on taking out the duplicate songs. I do have for instance - the song "Killing me softly" by the Fugees and Reberta Flack. Both versions are sung a lot. I don't have the same song done in the style of the same artist twice.

I have a large selection of Spanish also. I do have a bilingual crowd. I thought of making a seperate book for that, but then it looks like I'm descriminating.

I've also thought of taking out the holiday songs and making a seperate book for them.

I just have a separate listing in the back for other language songs.  Usually put in a separate holiday listing during the holidays as well, but they stay listed throughout the year.  Always get someone singing a Christmas song in July.

Babs I just went and got my system so I couldnt reply before looking at one of my books.. I am doing 2 column in a landscape fashion...I just have artist and title...Each column has 40 for a total of 80... Also print duplex or both sides which helps on weight and cost... I have one book done the old way just artist and it bulges an inch & half binder... I have only had one complaint about small print and I just gave her the big book....

I'm back down to 12,750 again so 160 songs a sheet takes about 80 sheets.....And they are easy to read....

Might have to try that one

But I like the idea of having Christmas songs seperately, when I realised it was about the right time to have a go at some it took a while to remember some of the non-obvious ones
