Ok Guys Lady luck visited me last night at the casino and I walked out $2000 Richer and I was thinking of new speakers.  If you had between $1500 and $2000 for speakers and Amp or maybe just speakers, because I'm pretty happy with my crown 602's, what would you get?

This is an area I was curious about last week for some reason.  I figured, "Assuming I had around 1.5-2K to spend on a PA. or even just a speaker system, what would be the optimal arrangement for indoor average sized venues"..
While I still don't know the answer, I was over at the Yorkville site, glancing at their Elite eXcursion sub series... I too was curious as to what other's felt would be a decent setup given around 2K..  Personally, I've always liked the better JBL cabs...(is it the M-series?) too.. I do wonder opinions of the Yorkville Elite excursion sub systems however.  I know nothing about Yorkville, except it's a decent name in speaker cabs.  (or it at least was)

We have the Yorkville NX520s, 12" (now called 550s) for tops and LS700Ps for subs.  Both powered and very satisfied.  If or when we upgrade we will probably get the NX750s, 15", also powered.  You should be able to get a pair of the 750s for that $2,000 you won.  An the 2/10 warranty is great too.

If you have two Crown XLS 602's, then a perfect match would be a pair of Peavey SP3's.

The SP3's have a 15" Black Widow and both a midrange woofer, and a high range horn. They really do well when playing back prerecorded music at high SPL's via their builtin crossovers.

One Crown XLS602 bridged on each would really rock!

You would need a subrange tho, as they only do well down to about 57 Hz....A single Peavey SP 118 or a 218 sub, properly powered and crossed would make you the local sound king.

Congrats on the win!

That would bring him right around 2K with the SP-218 Sub at around $679. The two SP3 15-(BW) cabs around $639 each.  Price-wise for the $200 difference between the SP-118 and SP-218, and the handling ratings, probably the 218 on one of the bottoms of a pole mounted SP3 would be more cost effective since subs usually aren't directional anyway.  Or would placement matter more with such an arrangement on a PA system ?  That's a mighty powerful PA setup...

<Musicians Friend> prices delivered. Probably no S&H on such a purchase... Unless the cabs are considered oversized.. Not sure.  2X18 cab might be.

(Keith,  you ever do a head-to-head on a PA setup with the BW vs. Scorpion speakers on moderate volume ?    I had a 115BW bass cab, and ended up replacing the 15" black widow with a JBL K series I had sitting around for the bottom of a small bass guitar stack. This might've been a stupid move on my part, not sure... I just assumed that the JBL was a cleaner speaker.. Yet since on top I often had a Trace Elliot 2X10H cab  (2x10 Celestions), not sure which speaker voicings would've gone together better, if either...I was of the impression that the JBL K was a better speaker for bass Guitar clarity..I wasn't sure...Figured if I have a stray 1x15 inch cab around, I'm better off with the Lansing in it...  Yet the Ampeg bottoms, and Trace Elliots I have came stock with Celestions (again,  I think, not certain)

Thanks For your input guys, so I'm looking at the yorkvile 750's but I can't seem to find a dealer in my area to listen to them.  I hate buying speakers without hearing them first.  If There are any more suggestions keep em comin.

I use JBL MP415 M-Pro Series Speaker. They have a great sound. Ithink they list for $749.00 each. I have seen them for about $500.00 . Best PA speakers I have ever owned.

Steve,

Swapping bass speakers in and out of cabs made by a different company might work, but also might not. It's not a fair test.

Cabs are tuned for the intended speaker...Cab tuning involves cab type, shape and internal volume....The tuning of the cab is determined by the TS parameters of the driver. (TS ratings are available from speaker manufacturer)

If I had $2000 burning a hole in my pocket, I would a least consider the Bose Personal Amplification system.

Just a thought...

I would look for a couple of JBL SR4726X, some of the best speakers made.  You can only get them used but they are well worth it.  http://cashlandy.com/SPEAKERS/?listingid=19231

Then would get at least 1 18" sub like the JBR SR4718A or X series - proveided you can find one.  http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-SR-4718-18-Speakers-No-Reserve-X-2_W0QQitemZ7377919135QQcategoryZ47095QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
