Whatever you do do not get teh Plextor px740. It is not cdg compatible. I know this from testing with it.

Just received my Plextor 716A yesterday. Only problem I found is that the firmware is not up to date. So you have to go to the Plextor website and update it. Small price to pay for a great drive.

CDRWin 3.9 and lower does not support the 716 drive.

well I've been using a PX-740A now for umm like 3 weeks and it works just fine for me *shrugs*

What happens (like with me) is that the drives come out but the software does not yet support it (like CDRWin)
The same goes for the .net versions I found. The older version (.net 1.1) is supported but all my software, but .net 2.x is not.

Dr D, download the latest demo version of your software, that's how I found out. I now have CDRWin 4.0b and that works fine.

You are correct Cindy, this drive is CDG compatible like most drive on the market.  CDRWin & MTU still uses the same old system to communicate with the player but if I'm correct, things will change on Microstudio & Hoster (maybe already done).

In fact, Plextor will soon stop producing CDG compatible drives, so, it's good to know that there is another way to read the graphic part.  Most karaoke software manage to make the changes about two years ago!

Oh, your drive is not really a Plextor BTW, it's a Ricoh, yep, that big company who makes photocopier!  Ricoh don't sell their optical drives in North America under their own label but they do under some Aopen, some Plextor and many more brands.  Excellent drive and yes, fully CDG compatible when using the MMC Deinterleave method.  Check the Ricoh UK site and you'll find your drive.

The last Plextor drive I bought off eBay is in the trash.

It too was in almost new condition, but it was broke and that's why the jerk sold it on eBay.

It's become a common practice/joke....if you have something electronic that breaks, go buy a new one and sell the broken one on eBay.

Can you import cd's with Hoster? I had to upgrade the firmware and microstudio as well. The old version did not support the 716.

it could be a problem with his ASPI setup on his PC... XP can be a pain in the butt sometimes... welcome to windows...- tig

Post subject:  Re: plextor

yep... ASPI on win2000 or xp is a pain, in that sometimes you have to manually add it in there, because those OS versions have an "equivilant" thing.

CDRWin is notorious for that... so you go to www.goldenhawk.com and download their ASPI drivers for XP or 2000!

had trouble wirth Microstudio reading any drives at all untill I installed Goldenhawk's ASPI driver. Go figure. Not sure about rules about talking about posts from other forums to back statements up but if you have heard a rumor of Plextor running away from CD+G, it is not true. the admin at another forum did a little investigation and from a rep from plextor's tech support that while they will be making non cdg compatable drives, they will still be making cdg cable drives as well.

That's good news, Plextor sure makes good drives!!  Most drives are cdg compatible btw, of course, if you use the good software. :biggrinthumb:

I have Hoster and I also just got my PX-716A (External) from MTU.  They took an 716A and put it in an external case.  It's SWEET!

Great, but keep in mind that the latest version of Hoster now supports most drive, not only the Plextor brand.  I own a Pioneer and it reads cdg perfectly.
