I just got back from karaoke as a patron. I'm usually doing my own show, so I don't get to do this often.

When you all go out, how long in between songs do you have to wait?

I sang twice - got tired of waiting so I went home

I've waited almost 40 minutes to sing at a place in town. And believe me...there wasn't a huge line of singers. This person would just put up who he wanted...if you were liked...you went up alot...and since we didn't know him..i sang once..LOL..

we went next door and bowled...THAT was fun...LOL...

That would depend on the size of the rotation and the way the host runs the rotation.  There is no set wait time.

if the rotation is being run fairly, you can figure 4 1/2 to 5 minutes for each singer including time wating for them to get up there, time spent changing discs etc.  most songs are 3 to 3 1/2 mintues long.  that's how i know when i 've got enough singers to finish the night.

Sometimes I have to wait an hour or longer in between songs....depends on how crowded the place is. And it seems like the list gets longer as the night progresses, so it's even longer. I've been in this same place before when I almost didn't do a 2nd song in 4 hours!
It is a bit frustrating, especially if you practiced a few songs earlier that day and hoped to try them for real that night. I usually stay from 10pm to 2am knowing that I need to get rolling at about 8am the next morning....sheesh, this karaoke thing is getting to be too much effort. lol.

PCornel - I have slow nights where I work. And nights where I start at 8pm but the crowd doesn't start coming in until 9 or 10pm. You should find out when this bar's karaoke is slower, so you can get in more or go different places.

Early evening Wed. are so slow I start out with 2-4 singers that will rotate 3 or more times before the crowd comes in.

Just food for thought.

The only slower night is on a Tue. and that just depends on my work schedule. I do this away from my home state while I'm out on my job. I might only get to do it twice a month, sometimes 3 times a month.
It's only Tue. and Wed. & Sun., but I'm never out there on Sunday.
My schedule rotates in a pattern that brings me around on Tue. or Wed. accordingly...."and So are the days of our lives". :newlol:
Wed. is the busy night....$2.00 pitchers of beer, brings in all of the locals.....man, I can't drink that stuff. :newlol:

It depends on when I get there and how many people there are signed up to sing.  Sometimes I get to do A LOT of songs, sometimes just 1 or 2.

It does seem like there are fewer singers at the beginning of the show, and assuming they'll start the show with only a few singers (some KJs seem not to want to start until they have four or five singers ready), you can sometimes get three or four songs in within an hour.  Later when the place is more crowded and people are drunk enough to want to sing, it can be an hour or more between songs.  At least that's been my experience.  I can't stand to wait for that long, and I'll leave after one song if I know it will be an hour before I get up there again.  But I usually go alone; if I had friends with me who were also singing I'd probably stay.

I'd say most of the time it averages out to about a 30-40 minute wait between songs at most places I've been to.  One time I went out later than usual and the show was well underway and the place was crowded, but there were almost no singers, which was great.  I set my record that night by singing eight songs in about an hour and a half.  I don't think I've ever gotten more than four songs in on any other night.

I can usually wait that long unless I am REALLY tired.  Or if I'm REALLY tired and it's late and the KJ doesn't think there will be time for me to sing anymore (I often ask to make sure).   I don't want to fall asleep while other people are singing!   LOL

I always arrive early and usually get to sing two or three songs.  My longest rotation wait was 3 -1/2 hours (one song) , but the average is an hour's wait.
