Finally found a good way to list the artist only once in excel for books... Assuming the artist column is col A and it has been presorted..

highlight a2 in col A
Format>Conditional Formatting
Use drop down menu to cell value = set  to A1
click format button
set font color to white (click on drop down & select)
click ok
copy that cell
highlight that column
Edit>Paste Special>
select formats
click ok

Hmmm, I just highlight the whole thing, click on "sort" button, choose column A for the first way, choose Column B for the second way to sort, and column C for the third!

After sorting the artist is listed in the col for every one of his songs .... This hides the multiple listing and only lists the artist once to eliminate clutter....

The only problem is that any changes you make with multiple artists this can really screw ya over! You'd be constantly be messin' with it.

now if you could create a macro that would do this upon execution every time you sort it (a buddy of mine did this once and it also sorted multiple songs via song manus for "importance" for those that thought SC was the best, followed by DK, followed by BS, etc.- , and I'm really pi$$ed that I lost that version of my file). now THAT would be something to have!

I know Lonman uses ACCESS, and I'd kill to see his page coding! LOL!

This just hides them Matt...  you can switch columns resort or whatever...After doing this you can go through the samo and change the font color back to black..

Talk about saying things Excel is one of those progams I never will understand its like a forign language to me.....

Next time u highlight a cell note the little black square lower right its called the handle u can do all sorts of things with it....

Perfect timing, Karyoker! I had just finished adding & sorting my new songs in on my Excel program a few minutes ago, and then came here and saw this thread.

Helpful advice, and I can now pretend that I know something that my girlfriend doesn't know! :hi5:
