We would like a reasonably priced all-in-one system to do Karaoke with the kids. We would like to get a reliable, basic-features player for around $150 but haven't found anything in that price range. We are looking at the Singing Machine SMG 199 which would cost about $70 (no cameras or monitors or other gizmos). But we're concerned it might not be very reliable. We've had friends who bought low-end players from Best Buy (not this brand) and they broke within a few months. Q1 - Is there a basic reliable all-in-one player to be found for $150? Q2 - Does anyone have experience with Singing Machine products? |

If you already have a decent home PC desktop, you can easily configure it to play karaoke thru your PC speakers(that is if you have a decent pair of PC speakers.....) I'm not sure if that would be what you had in mind, but depending on your sound card, all you would need to maybe change is the CD-rom.....The software is already free.....Once you install the software, you can try a CD+G to see if you get the graphics before you buy a Plextor or other CD-rom. |

get a lite-on dvd drive and pay for Roxbox. I know for a fact that the ripper will work with the 16X drive that is about $30 to $35 at Wal-mart. As to singing machine- had one would never buy one again - the Craig units at Walmart are better. If I were just buying for home use and never thinking about pro use, I would pay the extra $50 for a Craig Home Theater that includes a DVD player that also plays CD+G discs. It also has a color TV as well. |

to answer your question, I don't trust the all-in-one players... at that price. They're cheap, and the old axiom is almost always true... "You get what you pay for" Will it work right away? Sure! But six months later?? Buy the ones that we use in our pro shows... you won't be sorry! RSQ or JVC are good dependable brands. The only singing machine product I have experience with is the cd+g discs that they put out. not bad, but not great. Only good things that they do put out are the MoTown discs, and I really wonder at how legal that they are! |
