I have an american dj mine and aggressor . Can I use a dimmer with these or will I ruin them ? I have heard that if the lights have a motor on them you shouldn't try to dim them |

Dimmers nowadays are scr's which are solid state onn-off swithches that gate the on-off time or duty cycle to lights... Using them in any load which is not purely resistive generates huge spikes and destroys anything in the same fashion lightning does. These spikes are even reflected back to anything that is not isolated from that circuit... According to the Mine II maual it has 2 300 watt halogens...Theoretically it would be osiible to use 2 of these Guys controlling the lights only if you know a good tech or electrician to wire them... Even if I were to try it just to protect my investment audiowise I would go thru a 1:1 isolation transformer.... |

I personally wouldn't use them on anything that was motorized. On just a standard light (ie par can), it's not that big of a deal. |

Dimmers can be great for standard lights, but can really mess up anything with motors or electronics in them. Even florescent (sp?) lights shouldnt normally be used with dimmers. Some can also introduce a 'hum' into audio devices along the same circuit (but hey, thats another thread....). I would be carefull using dimmers. |
