I have a Christmas party gig coming up in a few weeks and they just requested some kind of lighting to go with the karaoke show. I'd like something to light up a dance floor with various kinds of designs moving around the floor as well as maybe a small spot light to shine down from above the singer. Maybe even a smoke machine to help the lighting effect for certain songs or dances. I want it to be light and simple. My gigs aren't all that big. Any suggestions? |

Go to www.pssl.com they have some good lighting packages for dance floors along with stage lighting as well. |

American DJ has some excellent sound-activated units. There are many units to choose from. I suggest looking at the Starball-II for the slow moving mirror ball effect. For more upbeat lighting, start with a Vertigo and take your pick after that. There are many to choose from. I'd look to have maybe four or five to switch between. Their Mystic will really light up a dance floor - one of my favorites, but it's bulky. All are reasonably priced. On the high end, DMX units are the way to go, but between the cost and programming time, I'd stick with the others (you could probably use a Martin Wizard for a full night, but the cost is high - dollars and programming). Chauvet also has some excellent effects lighting. You should be able to check out many units online or a local music shop like Guitar Center. If you plan to use a fogger, always check with the venue beforehand - most around here don't allow them. |

I get all my lighting from Musiciansfriend.com unless it's really special and hard to find. You will love their UV Wash ultraviolet units! And their 8 bulb sound activated color bars! They are great with customer service and their prices are usually below PSSL.com. Consider going sound activated lighting for now...It's lots cheaper and a no brainer setup. |

you can get several good deals from ebay as well. par-cans with bulbs, gels and frames for around $20 i think is what i paid. they have all kinds of packages as well from alot of different vendors. most of the equipment for sale there is made by chauvet, which is a pretty good brand. |
