I'm looking to spend around $500 or so on a reliable player (karaoke player). I would really appreciate some help with suggestions. I saw some international ones, TEC, Taijin, KumYoung, Megabox. Can anyone tell me if these are any good? It seems that overall, CAVS might be within my price range. Thanks in advance for any help.
Brian.

what are you looking for exactly? I know for what I personally need, I'd never go with the CAVs player... I personally prefer the RSQ505 for multiformat (DVD, CDG, VCD, CD)... and the JVC triple tray for cdg/cd/vcd purposes

I am looking for something that I can use with the family, with mics, nothing too fancy with sound, ones that you can change the musical notes, multiformat (sorry if I'm not being clear). Other than that, I'm not sure whether I know exactly what I'm looking for. I guess what I'm trying to do is to get some advice as to what brands to avoid, what brands have been proven reliable. As well, I wouldn't mind getting educated a little, like learning what CDG means. Even the mention of RSQ brand is helpful as I was actually looking at some of their models but wasn't sure whether they were good or not.

What exactly do you need? Do you need an all-in-one unit or just a player to hook up to an amp/home theater receiver, etc.??
You could do either with pretty good quality for well under $500.
Be a bit more specific what you are looking for and I guarantee the audiophiles on this forum will get you a can't-miss product!!

I'm looking for a player to hook up to a home theater with multiformat. Appreciate all the questions to help me narrow down what I'm looking for.

Okay, three things come immediately to mind.
Do you have an EXISTING home theater? If you do, are the speakers rated for "live mic"... that's a heckuva lot different than "standard" speakers, which are rated for "cd" or "recorded" sound. Everytime someone yells "WHOOOOOO!" in a mic, (or any other kind of "Highs" and "lows") you can bet your brass tacks that it's spiking the speaker, and they have to be rated to take that kind of abuse. Regular speakrs will begin to distort and rip and tear over a small amount of time with that kind of abuse!
If you are going to BUILD your home theater sound system, you'll need speakers that can handle it. So that right there in addition to any kind of pro player will blow your budget. The speakrs have to be hooked up an amp of some kind. The mics have to hook up to that amp, unless you get something like the AKJ7000 amp... that alone http://www.bizrate.com/buy/noncat_prod_details__oid--239960740.html will set you back the majority of your budget. There ARE cheaper mixers, but that one is built specifically for karaoke!
You can find good ones at www.musiciansfriend.com.
Like this six channel one for $99.99 on sale
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=l ... id/630156/
But you'll need a player. I highly recommend the RSQ505 (which is hard to find) or the RSQ303 (karaoke.com has it now on sale for $155)

Or do you perhaps want a MINI karaoke player, which has it's own built in speaker and usually comes with a mic? They're cheap for a reason, but CAN provide you with karaoke for the home.
http://www.karaoke.com/cgi-bin/WebObjec ... =Portables
They have players there from $99.00 to $149 to $299...

I have a simple set of speakers probably decent for movies or music like you described but not for live mic. Again good set of questions to help me think through the options. I can't seem to find the RSQ 505 anywhere. I did find a bunch of RSQ 303s, 333s and RSQ NEO-E500. Any thoughts on these? Can you tell me what the difference is between 505 and 303? Also, what would be the pros/cons of getting a CAVS?

Here are a couple of home units that are not designed to hook up to home theater but are great portable systems that have all the features you are looking for and have plenty of power. They are very close to your price range.
The nice thing is you can take them to parties etc. they are not tied to your home theater.
Just some other option to consider

Hope this helps you.

Hey, go read here:

Ya might find that useful, I asked this same question a while back, and people were really helpful.

So it seemed like I boiled the choices down to JVC, RSQ 333, RSQ e500 (because I couldn't find a 505 anywhere), RSQ 303. I like the first two options because they have the 3 tray options but I kind of wanted the DVD option. So I was leaning towards RSQ Neo-E500. What do you think? I'm gonna have to think about the speakers later.

Thanks for all the helpful replies so far. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the RSQ CK1, the one with the 10 disc cartridge. I'm aware that you can't change the disc while it is being used but was curious if anyone could offer any further thoughts.

I agree with the RSQ333/JVC303 (they are virtually the same player). This is a commercial-grade player with tons of cool features that can be integrated into a home theater set-up.
As for the guy trying to tell you you shouldn't sing karaoke through a home theater set up, don't listen to him. Although he is correct on all of his points about PA speakers being more tuned to live performance, as long as you keep your home theater receiver at a reasonable volume and don't continuously yell through your mics at some ridiculous volume, you are not going to haev any problems with doing karoake through your current set up in your living room without any problems.
Not everyone needs to have professional-grade sound!!
As for the 10 disk changer, I think you'll find that they are more trouble than they are worth, unless you happen to own exactly 10 karoake discs!! Go with the 3 disc changers (RSQ333 or JVC303) that can change on the fly or even a single disc changer (again, the RSQ/JVC dual and single disc players are great, or even Pioneer for the single disc) for you home use. The quality of the player is going to be great in all of these players and you'll spend $150-300 instead of the $500 you have budgeted!!

Is there a good reliable player that has 1) DVD, 3) CDG compatibility, 2) multiple trays?
