Sun night on the way home we stopped at a show I hadnt been at for awhile... A new KJ was there with this system...

Mains

and two of these Subs

I forget the brand of the amp but it was not a name brand.... For a karaoke system this is by far the best I have ever  heard.....I just want one of the JRX100 to use with G2's....

LOL...$1500 for the speakers alone, it better sound good!!

My system sounds pretty damn good with half that invested in speakers

I bet it did sound great!....but not as good as it should have.

The guy's only mistake was to mix the dual 15" tops with separate subs. He would have saved big bucks and sounded better if he had chosen the single 15" JBL tops to use with his JBL subs.

The reason is that the JBL tops with dual 15" drivers have built in crossovers that send sub freqs to the lower 15....That is fine whenever you want to NOT use separate 18" bass bins, but you should never mix the two.

Folks intending to someday expand and add 18" subs should not first buy dual 15" tops.

Keith now I'm gonna pick ur mind a little ... I can see your point and agree with you however if all the bass's are in phase are you saying they are too much for the diaphrams? Or highs...Anyway I just want you to elaborate a lil... I think what you are saying it's over kill.. Which it is....   I want to try this setup if I can ever afford the sub...
An Eon G2 on one side 2 reg eons and the Jrx100 sittin on the floor on the other side....
It's just I will never be satisfied with my system but I'm not gonna get in the more power and more bass to get good sound..... :oh yeah:

Edit... Which tops would you use with these subs?

What I'm saying is that the single and dual 15" cabs (made by anybody) are intended to be used a certain way. Dual 15" top cabs are never designed to be used with separate 18" subs.....But single 15" top cabs always allow the use of properly matched and crossed 18" subs.

Dual 15" tops are designed to be purchased buy the guy/band that does not have big bass bins and never intend to add them....They are a cheap and simple fix for the guy who wants "some extra bass" in his mix. But when big 18" bass drivers are added then he discovers that his bottom end sounds confused....And it will.

Find an honest and experienced salesperson and he will explain it to you.

Most dual 15" speakers (full range) are set-up internally to be used without a sub.  This is what is called a "quasi-3 way" system".  Basically meaning the 2nd 15" is set-up to BE the sub.  It gets all the frequencies below a cetain point while the other 15" acts as a midrange.  Most of the time a speaker of this type is used when there isn't room for a sub.

Why would you even consider a 15" for a midrange? Way to sloppy for the tigher frequency control needed. A true midrange should not be bigger then a 10", pushing it with a 12"

I don't see anything special about the system.
The Jrx is the lowest end of JBL speakers.

Dual 15"s are not the best for karaoke, for one fact they can't be flown or put on stands, and the sound level will be too close to the ground.

As far as subs everyone should use at least one sub for there setup in my opinion.

They (all makers) sell tons of dual 15" mains....There is a big demand for them in the live stage band market.

Like much of the gear we use, it's all designed for live stage use by a band....We have to adapt it to karaoke/DJ use....That's why it's super important to chose our gear carefully.

You are correct that 10 and 12" driver are probably best for karaoke, especially in a smaller venue, but most of us buy a 2 way 15" cab so we can cover larger venues and also do outside gigs.

The first time you set up outside you will be wishing you had four 15" mains and 8 subs cause their are no reflective barriers outside and the SPL's will drop to the floor.
