Hello, I am a DJ that loves Karaoke and finally decided to get in to it. I have a vocopro 480 that is Okay and purchased some Chartbuster and Sound choide disk that I really like. I am afraid of scratching them or lossing the originals. 
What is the best way to make backup copies??? I have seen some converters and freeware but I do not want to loose sound quality. I have a great memorex DVD/CD burner but no software. Any Thoughts? Thanks! Bob |

do a google search and a search on the forum here for "copy cd+g" or "copy karaoke discs" and you'll find a whole plethora of information. But you have to understand HOW CD+Gs work. The karaoke information is on a subcode, and most burners aren't set to read that, unless you go by the bit for bit recording... and I would have a hard time finding such copy programs. Most folks use PLEXTOR drives, cd or dvd... doesn't matter. |

Here is my two cents on this. I use program called Power CD-G burner. It's very simple to use and the new version even has copy feature, if you have two drives, it will automatically make copy from one drive to other. Do you need a special drive to burn CD-G discs? It's a yes and no answer. If you are using most of the program, the older drives will not have CD-G burning capability. Many of the newer drives, like the Plextor you have mentioned and Yamaha drive I use, will have that capability. If you Google, you can find lists of drives that supports CD-G online. If your CD-G burner is an older model, it will most likely not work. However, for older drives there are ways around it. There are software patches that you can download to make older drives works but you do it at your own risk. I know there are several patches on the Windows side and some copying software may even include it with their software. On the Mac side, the program is called Patchburn, current version is 4. Progams like this will patch your OS to make it work so use it at your own risk. Or just check to see if your CD burner supports CD-G or buy a new one fairly cheap. Good luck. |

Hi. I am a newbie (though pretty damn comfortable with computers) and can't seem to be able to copy cd+g. I have an internal dvd burner (NEC DVD RW ND-2510A). I have downloaded and tried most of the programs listed on the forum to burn cd+g, including alchohol 120, disk juggler etc, but have not had success. I either get an unspecified error during burning, or just don't get the g code working. I have a feeling its the burner, but it is listed as being cd+g compatible--although not certified by anyone. Any ideas? Why isn't the standard just dvd, wouldn't that be easier??? |

To sum it up Plextor took the extra expense and time to create a superior drive that would read Karaoke disks. They have a hardware decoding built in for reading the r-w codes that most of the other drives wont read and write. Even their dvd drives have this built in. |

MTU is a great choice for Bench Tested Burners and Software. I have tried many programs and I get excellent burns with Plextor and MTU Software Also check out Mitsui Silver Media CDR's They provide excellent durability and quality of burn as well. They are more expensive but have a much longer life due to increased durability. All of these are available through MTU There are many choices out there. This is what has worked best for me. By the way there is word on the street that Plextor will soon be eliminating CDG capability from thier line of burners. Don't know when this is going to happen but I'm guessing within the next 6 months. If you have the funds purchase now...it is well worth it. |

I'm really sad to see them stop the CDG format for burners! MTU has been trying to develop new codes for their software because of this issue. They will soon be able to use just about any burner with their software. But still recommend Plextor. Technology changes sooooooo fast! |

you know, it may eventually come down to a proprietary thing... the only way to do it is to use software that works with all burners (like I've heard Alcohol120% does), or to go to specific sites like MTU to get the correct equipment. And that sucks... because why would you go out and buy a plextor if not for the way that their subcode works hardware wise? I mean, I saw a generic dvd burner for $39.00... there are TONS of burners out there that are either the same price if not cheaper than the plextors. Guys, www.newegg.com has the plextor cd burners for $41.99 and the dvd burner on sale NOW for $59.99 (ten bucks off what it NORMALLY sells for!) Get them while you can! That $42 is HARD to beat anywhere! |

I think that is what MTU is trying to do. They are going to make their software work with just about any burner. However the quailty wil suffer when using a price brand. It has been my experience that Plextor makes all software produce better burns. They will sell more software but non plextor users will not get the same quaility of burn. That is pretty much the way it is with other programs on the market now. Thanks for the tip on the pricing I may partake myself.

We did a lot of research before we were able to create Power CD+G Burner, which now works with most of the drives available. To sum it up -- Plextor drives have hardware error correction and interleaving processor. It allows to burn raw karaoke files with them. We have developed a software replacement for this and I assure you that you get high quality CD+G burn with LiteOn/Samsung/Benq drive as you would get with Plextor. Once the error codes are generated and file is interleaved the burn process is the same. I agree that Plextor drives are better in general, but even more important is what CD-R media you use. One more interesting fact -- the latest Plextor 740 does not have CD+G hardware encoder and it does not work with CDRWin. It is in fact Benq drive with a Plextor badge on it. AFAIK Plextor is now the only company that makes fully CD+G compatible drives (Yamaha does not make burners any more, and HP dropped CD+G support some time ago). |
