[glow=darkorchid]Ok fun new topic, I KNOW everyone can add to this, just tell your most horrid and terrifing karaoke experience....... I will go first so let the giggles begin....... Alrighty, this almost scared me away from karaoke all together being that it was my very first performance. I was soooo excited, I was doing britney spears' hit me baby and I got all dolled out in my friends catholic school uniform with a few "adjustments" and I got up on stage my hands were sweaty my stomach had bats...not butterflies....but BATS!! Then the music played and the screen seemed to be blurry......and then uh oh I started singing, I was at least 2 notes off pitch and I panicked as the crowd seemed a bit amused......I felt a lump roll up in my throat and then....... I realized it wasn't a lump ......and then....BUUUUUUUUURP!!!! Loud as can be and the crowd fell silent, I turned blood red I'm sure and when I went to run off the "stage" I stepped down and boom my spice girl heels broke and sent me tumbling to the floor. All I could hear at that point was my heartbeat and the gasp of the people in there and then a roaring laughter which now that I think about it..... I think it was louder in my head than it really was, most people were concerned about my wellbeing but I didn't notice then.... I grabbed my broken hooker heels and hit the ground running.....it was about 6 months before I ever did karaoke again [/glow] |

OMG! ! Poor thing! My worst experience... hmmm, Lately I've been able to just flow with an error. I rarely get embarrassed. But when I first started... before I found my "voice", I was waivering all over the place. not a strong vocal at all... very weak. Anyway, I made the mistake of having the venue record me on cassette... and then I listened to it on the way home. I was just absolutely HORRIBLE! I suckied big time, and KNEW it. So I vowed I would NEVER, EVER, positively EVER torture other people with the sound of my voice. I wouldn't even go into my venue I "hung out" at for a few days. I finally went back, and would sit around and listen, but never put my request in. Finally, Rachael, the kj, asked me what my problem was. I asked back "What problem?" "Why aren't you singing?" "'cause I SUCK! I heard myself on tape, and I'm AWFUL!" She just blew air out her nose! "Jeez! If you really think you're that bad, you need a wake up call. It'll take time to find your own confidence... and that's all you're lacking! That's what we're all here for! Now put up a slip or I'll hurt you!" Racheal was always the best person to work with and for... even after I took the turn to professional karaoke host. I've never forgotten her specific lessons... so now when I torture everyone with my singing I blame her! ! |

omagoodness Butterfly! I think I'd die if that were me! fortunately I've never had anything REEEEALLY embarassing happen to me at karaoke (err.... that I can remember) I attempted to sing "Cry" by Faith Hill once.... forgetting how flippin high it was.... and basically stood there staring at the lyrics on the screen with a blank look on my face.... that's about the worst story I have. Borin huh? |

[glow=darkorchid]Well things happen although I believe I was traumatized from that moment on and I still get a little shaky on karaoke night but I just remember that my first experience HAD to be the worst thing that would happen to me and I lived through that so why stop there? I might as well try more and go for the embarrassment hall of fame [/glow] |

My worst is prolly I was doing Paradise City by Guns N Roses and it was going awesome, I was hitting all the highs perfectly and sounded a lot like Axl Rose doing it, people are hitting the dance floor having a blast. Well I'm singing the Sunfly version, and I had no clue Sunfly cut the last couple minutes off of the song. So I belt out the last line......and all of a sudden there's no backing music! Just me belting out a couple lines! I felt like a total tool. |

now THAT happened to me singing "Suite Madam Blue"... I was used to the SC version, and when I went to another place, they had the Sweet Georgia Brown version I think... that version was HALF the other! ! |

Nothing really too embarrassing. Just the obvious: singing a song really, really badly. I think everybody who sings karaoke has done that at one time or another. A few times I did feel like I would burp during a song (I drink a lot of soda pop), but it never happened. I imagine eventually it will. |

I don't really have any horrid stories either, other than the typical off pitch thing. I tried to do closer by NIN last week, and just could not find the pitch for the verses. I don't think anyone really cared though, they were all too busy grinding away on the dance floor. Timbo |

Hey Maggie. Next time don't worry if you hit one or two clams in your song. It doesn't matter the point with singing out is you get the experience being in front of a crowd. No one expects you to be perfect because no one is. Even the most famous and talented people get bad days. So next time dont give up. Take a sip of your drink swallow and try your best to finish. Your best is all you can do. So keep your chin up k, a lot of people don't have half the confidence to get up there to begin with I'm sure. I have only did one karoke night in my life and I sang with a complete stranger and I was buzzed out of my mind and did NY NY. It was fun to sing with someone I didn't know and we got a standing Ovation. So rock on and keep havin fun. xxxxxxxxx much love, g |

There was this drunk guy that came up in front of the stage while my friend and I were singing, and he was pretending to take pictures with nothing in his hands. I thought he just thought we were cute, but when I got to the ladie's room after the song...oops! At least I had on my cute new underwear I had bought at La Senza just the day before... |

Butterfly, I wish I could fake accidents like that on stage and make them look real. Then my crazy behavior would get the crowd loosened up every time I was on stage. After all that is what the crowd wants anyway. I read about this woman dancer who had bladder control problems... Not a story for this group though :) |

Kind of funny story. Sometimes we do a gender bender, where you choose a song sung by someone of opposite sex. We try to keep it light but sometime we will pick some extreme opposite songs, like my friend who sang "I am woman, hear me roar" with an "attitude". Anyways, I have this friend who is gay and on that particular night he picked "It's raining man" to sing for gender bender. I don't know why but I had to control myself from laughing, along with my other friend who knew he was gay. It just was the right mood and the way he sang it I guess. I thought it was so funny. |
