Anyone have an opinion on the best rack-mountable 3 mic (at least three...more is fine), 4 channel mixer out there?  Maybe one with built-in effects (although I have a seperate component for that)?  Thanks

They all can be racked.  The ears are usually purchased separately depending on the brand.

If it's MADE for karaoke, it generally isn't worth it's weight in parts.  Stick with a pro unit, you'll be glad you did!

Behringer is Noisy and Junk I dumped my Behringer mixers for Yamaha and can't believe the difference. I have Yamaha 16/4's now they are big bu many times I do sound for bands now an then so the extra channels made sense. Plus it is the size of the top of an SBK Gig Rack, they fit perfect.

You will find the Yamaha mixers to be slightly less in price than the mackies and have much warmer mic pre amps. There are versions with and without onboard effects the effect models are about $100 more.

If you need a very inexpensive mixer Behringer will work. but only the mic channels have gains, on the yamaha the stereo inputs also have gain controls. The faders are not the best, and the mic pre amps are less than to be desired.

I still have 2 behringer mixers myself, after 3 years in operation they are still 98% functional, so I guess they were more than worth their money, my yamaha Mixers were only $230 after a discount and the Street price is $270 you can get a 12/4 for $230 only $100 more then the same Behringer I suggest spending the little extra cash, you will not regret it.

Right now, I have a Stanton (POS) in place.  It is a backup...I used it for the first and ONLY times Friday and Saturday.  Never again.  Yeah, I need a 19" mixer that I can use for standard DJing as well.

I just picked up a behringer 1222fx rackmounted unit.  I've used the Mackied DFX12 in the past and feel this unit is on the same level as the Behringer. (soundwise)
Only  time will tell if it holds up .  This unit for the money was and is worth every penny.  On Boards effects which in my opinion for karaoke MUCH better than the DFX12.  also the Behringer unit has 7bnd main eq  / 3band Channel EQ  / feedback finder / 3d surround effect /  There is a lot of truth in the old addage you get what you pay for... So you need to decide if you want to pay $600 for a Mackie CFX12
or $179 for a Behringer.  You can drive a Chevy or you can drive a Lexus --both have power steering AC and a radio, Both get you from point A to point B in comfort....

The 'best' is a subjective term.
But since you said you want to use it for DJ'ing as well things can get pretty strange.

I'm assuming a 19" rackmount since you didn't say you were using a 10".

Best?  Heath and Allen Xone 464 kicks (@$%&#!).... ($1500 or so)

but reasonably priced?  The CFX is a good choice - especially if you need internal effects.  I use a Mackie Onyx 1620 ($750 or so) because I wanted the extra recording capabilities.  I can also hook this together with another 1620/1640/1220 to increase the number of channels I can record.  Overkill?  Yes.  Hard to rack?  Yes (it's 12U).

But bang for the buck with the extra recording capabilities a Mackie Onyx 1220 is a good buy (but will require an external effects unit).  BTW, rack ears for a 1620 are $50, but come with the 1640 (but it's $1200 and has NO stereo inputs).

Won't be much use for karaoke.  Good dj board.
That's the one thing, if you are running karaoke, you need something designed for more live work, dj boards are set-up to play music pretty much & not designed to work with live vocals.
you may consider getting a small 'live" mixer to handle the karaoke aspect & the dj mixer for the dj aspect.  A friend of mine does this & it works fine, he connects the dj board to the live board when he needs to do both karaoke & dj work.  Otherwise he runs one or the other if it's just strictly one or the other.

  You guys are gonna get a chuckle out of this. For KJ I still use a Gemini KM 707. :D   For DJ I use a Soundcraftsmen MX 500.  :dancin: Not the fanciest or the newest, but they do the job effortlessly. Being a die-hard vintage guy, I still like the "old" stuff, but take my hat off to all those who like to upgrade, even when they don't really need to. :2cents:  :worship:

Todays best buy would be the new Yamaha 12/4FX or the 16/4FX, a little more expensive than Behringer but offers a much better DSP and the customer service is by far superior. Mackie are way over priced and do not offer a better sound or mic pre-amp, in fact, any board under $1000,00 will have a crapy Mic pre-amp that will give you similar results, but for Karaoke it's still fine.

I own a Behringer 1622fx-Pro and never had any problems, it has a crapy DSP but don't care, cause I'm using a Lexicon MPX-110 along with a DBX 266XL and my latest addition allows me to bypass the mic pre-amp by using a lamp pre-amp call, TUBE Pre from Prosonic, day & nights difference :D

Again, YAMAHA has the best buy product has we speak and thanks to Behringer for making the others lower their prices :nana:
