Went to a karaoke show last night hosted by a freind of mine. She is one of these KJS that thinks MORE is BETTER so she buys cdg after cdg every month.  Not that thats a bad thing but her song book was at least 10" thick and weighed about 5 lbs .
It was so big I didn't even pick it up but used the much smaller NEW RELEASE book
which had discs in there from 2002 ( another topic) .   How big is TOO big and besides taking out duplicate titles  are there other ways to minimize the BIG BOOK
I seperate mine by one book by TITLE another by ARTIST . I noticed she had them together in one book.   Does anyone seperate by ALPHABET or is that too much hassle for the singer cause now they need to get 2 or 3 books?  I double side print my books and use NO page protectors and I noticed this cut down the bulk dramatically.  ... On the other hand my books are 1/3 the size they used to be and I'm , wondering if  some singers just look at the size and think --- Not TOO much in there?

In my most recent book printing I took out all of the duplicate songs it took me from 35,000 to 20,000 song and made my book much smaller.

I reprint books every 6 months it keeps update sections to a minimum.

I separated the title & artist section into 2 books.

Roxbox book maker now has the ability to change font size.. It puts it in 2 columns with the artist then list of songs.  Laser printers such as the Brother HL-2050 are only $120 now It has the software to print duplex (both sides of page) and put 2 or more pages on one.  Currently making books by Artist and there are 4 columns per page in landscape fashion with the artist in bold type Arial and songs in Comic sans MS.....
Doesnt look too shabby really and takes a lot less space....

Our books are divided into Artists and Titles and then subdivided into A-L and L-Z including new arrivals.  Thirteen copies of each book, and even with that amount we sometimes run out.  Books are usually reprinted every year.

My books include breakdowns of both Artists and Titles (as well as a section for additional stuff added after the printing of my books). I've always liked having a book where you can look things up either way.

I generally prefer that as well, but I was going to have to move into a 3" binder otherwise.  Dividing them at least puts me back into a 1 1/2" binder.

If you're PC based with MP3+G files, the only program that can really reduce the size of your book is Song List Creator 2.x (The one by Latshaw Systems, not the one by airwer).

http://www.latshawsystems.com/products.aspx

Where do I begin?

- it can combine multiple versions a songs into a single line and show the different versions like:

Sinatra, Frank        My Way        DK LG SC UK

That alone cuts most book sizes to less than half.

It can print as small as you want and in up to 7 columns!  (don't recommend going that small but it can be done)

You can set custom paper sizes and custom margins, and it has a unique feature where you can tell it to flip the left and right margins on every other page for KJs who put them in binders and print double sided, that way it will leave room for the punch holes correctly alternating for every other side.

Unlike KJpro or other programs I've tried, you don't have to enter all the discs or songs you have into a database and keep maintaining it as you add and delete songs.  This program simply reads all of the songs on your hard drive, (and if they're titled correctly), it automatically knows how to parse Title, Artist, and DiscID.

If you're still lugging around CDs to every gig, well, you're a glutten for punishment anyway, and this new fangled stuff isn't for you....

...well, that's my 2 cents worth[/url]
