I would say about 7 or 8 years ago...I could be wrong with the timing.  VH1 had a short special called Celebrity Karaoke.

The show I  tunned into had....Fred Schnieder from the B-52's sing Elvis's  "Viva Las Vegas"

Debbie Gibson did Barenaked ladies "One week"

and the best part about the show was

Dr. Ruth doing "Touch of grey" by the Greatful Dead!!!! It was PRICELESS!!!!

anyways I had it recorded but I am not able to find my vhs recording of it and I was wondering if anyone else out there caught that brief moment in vh1's history and would be willing to share a copy with me....

Just recently, one of the networks kinda resurrected that concept.  They brought on 3 or 4 washed up has beens (usually one hit wonders) who sang their one hit wonder, and basically karaoked to a new pop tune.  My wife loved the show, I thought it was crap.

Also with the sucess of Dance with the stars, VH1 or some other channel is doing "But can they sing?"  Joe Pantaliono is one of the celebs.

speaking of which, did you guys hear about Rick Morrannis of Second City ("Honey I Shrunk The Kids" and sequels, "Strange Brew", etc.) has released a COUNTRY albulm! Track I heard on the radio is a take off of a Johnny Cash tune.
