May I ask, why we get a poor sound quality on SS versus any other karaoke sites out there? My default player is MP, but the sound has more mid, less highs, in fact, very narrow sound! It has been reported also, that sometimes the song will play on a lower pitch which I can confirm. Check out the last sub from Kass, it's not playing on the correct key, I've ask her to sub on another site and it plays perfectly, not only on the correct pitch but with a much better sound!

Is there anything that can be done on your end Phil???

That's a new one.

I have no idea why it would be any different. There isn't anything at our end that would cause a difference unless a different version is uploaded by the member.

The file is uploaded and stored into memory. There isn't any additional compression set up.

I will check with the DataCenter to see if they can determine what would possibly cause this.

Hi Micky:
I had also noticed the different sound quality in comparison to another site and I was just waiting for a good trusting set of ears to bring it out to make sure I was not alone. I'm thinking that maybe here, the songs pass throu Quicktime and on the other site they use WMP. Could that be true and if so, I beleive WMP reproduces with much better sound quality????? At least that's the way it sounds to me also.

This site uses whatever you have set up in your browser to playback the sound files. We do not set this.

I am still researching to see if there can be another explanation.

Everything sounds the same to me here as it does through other sites.  My default player is Windows Media, which is also what I use when playing CDs, album .mp3 files or my own personal recordings.  I never hear a difference in pitch, sound quality or anything else UNLESS the compression of that particular file is anything less than 128kbps.

My own personal recordings sound much better on this end BEFORE I upload them here because I always save them at 192kbps... but when I put them on here I have to compress them to get them under the 3MB limit.  They usually wind up being around 96 or 112kbps.  I listen to them after they're uploaded just to make sure they're working.  I can notice a slight difference, but never in the pitch.  The lesser quality is to be expected with compression.

I don't think Micky and me are talking about a huge difference in sound quality from this site to let's say, KS_, at least I'm not. I believe it takes years of long hard music appreciation and a pro type set of studio monitor headphones like I'm very fortunate to have, to be able to notice the difference. My friend Deb, if you don't hear it , that's OK. After all, only very " picky " listeners with the right kind of gear will distinguish it. LOL!!! I can live with it but it puzzles me why the very same mp3 song file sounds with an edge in fullness and definition on the other site.
If any of you would like to check it out, you must have  the pro type headphones because that is the only way to capture the most minor details and nuances in the recording. Too many other factors come to play when using speakers, like room ambience or room acoustics, type of speaker, position and distance between you and the speaker, to name a few.

Wow.....A pro type of studio monitor headphones?? They are use for tracking and not for listening. A cheap and fairly flat respond monitors are anytime better than a pair of expensive h'phones; even in an untreated room.

Hello Badsinger:
That's the beauty of dealing with sound. Some might prefer one type of listening environment over another but when you finally find the one that makes your mix sound the way you want it over any type of monitor set up, being car, home, boom box, etc... then you should stick to it. After many years of trial and error, I found mine to be my trusting set of Sony headphones. Try listening to the vocal effects in a recording and you'll hear them better throu headphones than from speakers. To each his own, my friend and by all means go with what works for you.

Sorry, I'll have to disagree with you on this   I do all my mixes with my AKG-K141 headphone monitors and no way would I be able to acheive the same results with my Truth B2031A.

My default jukebox player is MP and there's is in fact a difference in sound from SS and the other 3 sites. I agree with Tonmay, it takes some very sensitive ears to be able to hear the difference, believe me, sometimes I wish I didn't have these sensitive ears,  cuz I can't use Winamp because of it's poor sound quality, my music has to be in a FAT 32 drive instead of NTFS because of the sound improvement...

BTW, the best Jukebox player available to test your music is, XMPLAY, it uses the best sound engine and it also handles some of the Winamp plugins, not sure it handles the cdg plugin, but that's how music should sound like :)
Check it out; www.un4seen.com/
Some Pro software uses the Bass Audio engine, well, I know cubase does!

Oh btw, when comparing sound with the other sites, of course I'm talking about an identical compressed file using a Lame encoder.

Micky, I trust your ears on this. If there is a different in the audio quality at same compression ratio using the same encoder then you are the most likely to detect it.
I dont go to the other site often enough to spot the diff.
I hardly use my headphone to listen to music except when my activity distract my other family members. I use headphone only when tracking and prefer a monitor when mixing anytime. Then thats me..

ps  The key change to the song bluff me.
