Don't hold back Tom, tell us what you REALLY think!  LOL

I'm more curious what kind of place he's playing!  If the floor weren't so polished I'd bet he was playing in a barn!

That setup Picture was from a wedding I had done this past weekend, and Yes it was in a converted barn that was part of Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling water. A very nice wedding actually one of the best I have done.

Someone had a thread about lights a few moths ago, we just changed to 2 light setups, this is the setup I would use for private parties Karaoke and DJ as well as Weddings. A second advanced lighting setup with all intells is currently in the works, as well as strech screans for video dj / karaoke.

The purpose of the black is to hide all wires and pc's to me it looks like an eye sore without it.

I don't feel the need to advertise myself at a private formal gig if someone likes my service they will ask me for a card.

For public gigs I have purchased a vynal banner to place in the same way you photoshoped over my barrier.

Cool Setup don't know if I could work fom such a small case. Too many variables What if something goes down?
I carry 2 pc's, 2 amps, 2 Externals HD's.

Eventually I hope to have everything in a pre-wired set of cases.

I'm impressed with all that equipment.  How does one learn and get into the business and how do you market yourself?

I would assume that it takes a lot of courage to go for it.

Why would you need  computers if you have Karaoke players? Educate me please.  This is extremly facinating.

What do you think of  a combintation DJ/Karaoke/ and Entertainer concept?

Computers are the wave of the future for all music including karaoke.  It replaces the players, allows several hundred discs to be played from a single hard drive instead of bringing all those discs.

So what software do you use to change keys on a song when someone needs keychanging?

Many of the programs have a keychanger available.  MTU Hoster has one built in.  But apparantly key changers aren't all that important since a couple of "PRO" players are out that don't even have a digital changer - yes they do have one that slows & speeds up the song like slowing down or speeding up an old record.

Actually I do have Keywrite home version by mtu.   I created an audio CD-r after I changed keys and created new wave files.  The home version does not appear to be up to par for performing live.  But they do have a pro version which I understand is compatible  for performing live.  Keyrite does support CDG's.

I did try out pacemaker and winamp.  It actually changes the key without changing the speed although it also has a speed changer.

winamp and pacemaker are free but the CDG plugin is not.  What I wanted to do was possibly use my wife's laptop as a karaoke player.  But I don't really need the lyrics.  In fact I can do it with winamp and pacemaker without cdg support.  But I wanted to see which of the two was a better keychanger.

With keyrite, I can change keys and make new CD-r, non CDG. I don't think I can do that with winamp. What I have to determine now is if I can justify the pro version of keywrite.  I don't perform much and I don't do karaoke bars at this time.

I'm basically looking at all the different options.  Tonight I may be going to a nightclub where the band actually sings(3 guys that sing) to recorded music and they add a little spice with their own keyboards and guitar.  They all seem to have laptops.  I'll probably be asking them how they use their laptops.  Do they connect to a server or does each one of them have only the music that each one sings to and connect each laptop to a mixer.  They must have a mixer because they have several microphones.

Thanks for all the info.

Maybe I misunderstood the cdg plugin license agreement. The mp3 plugin said it was not free. But let me ask this question then.  How do you get your CDG file onto the hardrive?  I could not get winamp to recognize my Plextor external drive which does support CDG.  When I initiate winamp, it comes up with a message to get the administrators permission or get adaptac wnaspi32.dll driver which I already have on my PC. I wonder if that's permission to use the cdg plugin.

I know there are programs I can buy, but are there any freeware CDG rippers.  Karaokefun does not work on my PC due to the 3d limitation and I could not get winamp to recognize my plextor.

The player and the keychanger play just fine when I use wav. files.  They also worked O.K. on my wife's laptop directly from her CD/DVD player on audio only.
