I'm not happy with the versions of Glory Days that the KJ's have.  I think I want to get my own CDG that has a recording of Glory Days that is closer to the original.  I want more of the driving beat and depth of the song.

It would also be great if good versions of Dancing in the Dark and Hungry Heart were on it.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

TIA,
:-David

What is the meaning of "layering" in CDG's?

On DVDs, the layering refers to two things. First, the audio track and the video track of the DVD are burned into different layers of the DVD, and the laser reads both at the same time. Likewise, a DVD usually has two layers of video and audio tracks, one that the lasere reads forwards and one that it reads backwards. Next time you are watching a DVD, you'll notice a very short pause in the action about halfway through the movie where the laser starts reading backwards.

On CDGs, I would assume that the same is true, that the audio and video (lyrics) tracks are recorded into different layers that the CDG laser reads simultaneously.

cd+g it is called sub-channel data. And is exactly what you described. CD+'s are nothing more than a regular audio cd, but have a second track under the audio layer sub channel data a time text file most known as karaoke graphics.

Thanks for the information.

It doesn't sound like layering has much to do with the "depth" of a recording.  I guess I should have explained what I meant by that.  Strong percussion, distinct bass, proper effects, etc.

And it would be nice if the recording would use the appropriate lead instrument.  For instance, the appropriate lead instrument for "Whad you Say?" is an elextric piano, though the cuts I've heard use an electronic organ.

I think the cut of Glory Days I have uses an electronic organ as the lead instruement when the correct intstrument is an electric guitar.

It is especially hard to understand because synthesizers these days are so good I don't think I could tell a synthesized guitar from a real one.  Why can't they get it right?

Damn I feel silly. I forgot when you had asked about layering that I had used that word to describe my springstein Legends discs.

I really meant to say that the two Springstein Legends discs have a ton of depth, i.e. multiple instruments, good rich sounds, etc.. They are the best springstein disks I have encountered. Go to karoake.com and you can listed to samples from those discs (and they are also on sale, $12 each I think...)
