Okay, I downloaded the free version of Audacity, but it's not working right. I keep having to re-install it after it locks up.
I was able to record a song a couple times, but then, it locks up and I have to start over. I did notice that when playing back the recording, the song skips. It's not my karaoke machine or CDG disc, it's the downloaded software.
Anybody have any ideas about this? I'm stumped, or my computer is junk.  :(

Thanks in advance.

are you running anything else? Sometimes, if I'm running too much stuff in my pc's background, any mp3 will skip in my mp3 player (winamp)...

if you're on the net actively doing stuff (downloading especially), it's a huge drain on the resources, but doesn't appear to be to the casual user.

Antivirus software is a big media resource.

not having enough memory, or not enough CPU power (in other words, if your system is overloaded, not upgraded enough, or just not adequate for your current needs)

Thanks knightshow. This is what I wrote in another thread...........

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. I ended up downloading Audacity and dbPoweramp music converter, but the Audacity only worked for me a short time before it started locking up? I never did get it working right. I was able to record one whole song, but the quality was poor. (cracking, popping, cutting out) Then I was able to take my crappy song and convert it to an mp3, but I'll never use the song, wasn't good enough.
I read a tutorial and one of the requirements the guy mentioned was that I need a high-speed internet connection? Why? The sound recording is done without any extra applications running. Anyhow, I have dial-up, but I don't think that should matter.
I did find a conflicting program in my computer just now that was causing me some headaches posting here I think.....Yahoo toolbar. It had my mouse pointer going ballistic. I deleted it. I don't use Yahoo, my daughter does, but how can that affect my use of Audacity? I don't run the internet while trying to use Audacity.
I might have to buckle down and buy a new computer with Windows XP and plenty of memory, a better soundcard, etc...
This thing is only 5 years old, but I've had problems with it in the past, more than I want to deal with. I like equipment that works. Not something that has to be tweaked to accept programs that everyone else uses without issues.

I'd appreciate all the info on this Audacity thing I can get though. I don't think it's difficult to use, I just can't figure why it doesn't work for me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I gave up for now, but I'll pick it up again soon, been on this computer for 2 days straight, it's almost time to go back to work.    :newlol:

Hi there.  Which version did you download cause I was thinking if you downloaded the newer versions like 1.2.4 or 1.3.0 they just recently came out Nov. 28, 2005 and since their new they could have problems. I use the older version 1.2.2 and it works pretty good for me. If thats the problem I have a link to the older version on my site.  http://www.geocities.com/monicaoolala1  I do get the the odd popping and skipping in my songs but not very often. I do use other free trials like sound forge and it happens on them too. Good luck I hope everything works out for you XXXXXXXX's Monica[glow=blue][/glow]
