I have several & most of them have been or are being replaced as they aren't worth the time to set a drink on!

The StarDisc Pop are CRAP-CRAP-CRAP... Do Not Buy...
Now I don't mind the StarDisc Country. I bought a bunch of these when I was first starting out and still use some of them.
Nowadays though, if there is a new song that is popular and StarDisc brings it out before any other company, I will buy it so I can have it right away. However, I will replace that song a month or two later when Top or Pop Hits Monthly releases their version.

I'm not a big fan of them as well. I have a few country discs and thought the music was so-so. The graphics/swipes are pretty poor though IMO. I pretty much stick with CB now for country releases.

Wally, you said,

Why waste your money like that? Just wait the extra month or two for THM or PHM to release your song.
I agree with you guys. I think Star Disc sucks! I do not own 1 single one in my library, but I have heard a few and was very disappointed.

I have some, and they are ok... a few are pretty good. The newer ones seem to ME to be better quality than they've initially put out on the lower numbers. But even some of those were okay to me! ((shrug)) who knows?

I'd agree that they are towards the bottom of the QUALITY list but I do own a few of them. I bought some a few months back to fill some gaps as they were on sale very cheap. If I see any particuliar song getting requested alot I'll pick it up on a better brand.

I tend to buy 1-2 discs from a manufacturer to 'test' the quality.
For example: I own exactly 1 Nutech disc. I own nearly 30 Karaoke Bay discs. I own 1 MTV disc, 1 K-Tel disc and only 1 of a couple other brands.
If you want to know the quality of a particular disc you can always drop $5-10 on it and see what it's like. I almost bought the Sav-A/Sav-p line a while back but when I realized that some of the songs don't swipe (saw them at a local show) I'm glad I didn't.
Chances are, if you local KJ's don't have them at all they're crap. If they have them, request a song off one and see what it's like.
That aside, I haven't bought any Stardiscs - largely because I don't like the quality I've seen on the few I've seen played at shows.

I think Karaoke Bay are better than Star Disc. They sound the most like casio keyboard karaoke out of all the maunfactures.

I'm not a KJ, but as a karaoke singer for over 5+ years I've become very "version-conscious" along the way. By that I mean: if I go to a venue where a KJ's book has more than one version of a song listed that I'm thinking about singing, I look for specific manufacturers. It's helpful when KJs list their collection by brand & number rather than just by the order in which their disc appears in their CD case. There are only a few places I go to sing anyway and most of the KJs know me so I feel comfortable asking which version is which. If it's a new place and I'm just another random, I won't ask. I don't want them to think I'm some pushy, drunken bar fly with nothing better to do than bug the KJ.
I have an extensive collection of songs I sing at home while practicing and the StarDisc versions are NEVER ones I would choose. Usually I take along my own CD+Gs so I can sing the versions I'm used to. Occasionally I've forgotten to take my discs out with me because I hadn't originally planned to sing that evening but ended up at karaoke anyway. I've made the mistake of thumbing through a song book, picking out one listed just by disc number and realizing it's the worst version possible. Generally those are the StarDisc & Chartbuster.
When I'm at home looking for new songs to sing (whether they're new songs on the charts or just ones I've never tried before) I go directly to KJPro.com to see how many different backings of that song are available. If it's a recent song, chances are that StarDisc has jumped all over it first and it will be the only one listed. I wait. I'll wait a LONG time if I have to because I know I won't like it so why bother with it? I try to acquire every version available of a song I'm really interested in singing just so I can check each one out and pick the best one. I'm more partial to SoundChoice, Top Tunes and the Pop/Top Hits Monthlies. Recently I've started really liking ZOOM and EZ brands as well.

see, and I think Zoom, for the most part, is average. They have some pretty good ones, pretty badddddd ones, and most are average.
I have NO idea which Star Discs you guys have tried, but I've been happy with the few I've had. Granted, some aren't that good. But I can say the same thing about Zoom, EK, Sunfly, Leg, PHM, THM, pop pioneers, cb, and yes, even Sound Choice will destroy a song or two!
Guess I just got lucky on the ones I had!

I can say the same thing about every manufacturer of every song I've ever tried. It's hit or miss. That's why I try to gather every version of a song I want to sing so I can pick the best version. It's very subjective.
