I find myself KJ'ing at a place that is beginning to show signs of financial distress and I'm thinking it might be the death rattle for this place. Here's what I've observed: -No longer advertising -Reducing kitchen, wait and bar-tending staff hours and shifts -Cutting back on Karaoke hours -Owners themselves have taken to working the door checking ID's in lieu of security -Noticable decrease in Karaoke and regular happy hour custies comeing in -Deferrement of basic maintenance: **not fixing the air conditioner so that the place doesnt feel like an oven **not fixing the coca-cola drink gun so they have to mix coca-cola drinks from a two-liter or 12 oz cans **Not repairing or upgrading worn-out karaoke gear **too much duct tape holding mics and cables together This is what Ive observed at this place and I got cut back from 2 nights to one so they could keep some other dj girl on the payroll. What other signs have you observed at other places that were hurting or ready to go under? |

That one is a pretty clear indication in itself! Mysterious fire burns the place down. |

You receive a subpeona. subpoena: (suh-pea-nah) n. an order of the court for a witness to appear at a particular time and place to testify and/or produce documents in the control of the witness (if a "subpena duces tecum"). A subpena is used to obtain testimony from a witness at both depositions (testimony under oath taken outside of court) and at trial. Subpenas are usually issued automatically by the court clerk but must be served personally on the party being summoned. Failure to appear as required by the subpena can be punished as contempt of court if it appears the absence was intentional or without cause. |

Items on the bar walls are gone and for sale on ebay. Karaoke equipment has been reduced to only what is needed. All cd's are now burnt copies and original are for sale on ebay. Big Mouth Billy Bass's batteries havn't been changed in 4 years. Bartenders are now required to split tips with the bar. All of a sudden there are 8 cherry masters instead of 2. |

Cups on the beer taps just mean they ran out - but if they don't come off.... Running out of liqour could mean they just don't maintain sufficient backstock... Shopping at the local liqour store can mean two things - either the distributor is charging too much or the local liqour store has better prices - and yes, I've seen the local liqour store charge LESS than the distributor charge the low volume bar I was working. Admittedly, this is rare but it can happen. The other could be the volume is low enough the order doesn't have enough gallonage to justify the delivery. When the basic maintenance stops it's a sure sign to start wondering.... They ask you to stop by tomorrow to pick up your payment, or next week.... Keep in mind that what I'm talking about above as reasons why they might be happening other than going under are usually signs of poor management.... and not necessarily the bar going under. |
