Curious - Where you KJ or Sing
What is the price of the alcohol being charged during Karaoke ?  Does the bar RAISE there price any when entertainment starts?

Where I use to work steady the prices never changed whether there was a DJ/KJ or band ?!  Never understood managements thinking but it seems thats why they couldn't afford to pay anymore? LMAO

Bottle of Coors Light - $2.75
Bucket of nips (7 oz ) 6 for  $6.00
Mixed drinks house brand - $3.50

Those prices are not too too out of wack, though I have never heard of raising prices for entertainment. If anything, my bar lowers prices by running a few good specials during karoake night. Karaoke night at my place always has the happy hour price on domestic draft beer at $1.00 for a 10oz glass or $6.00 for a 64oz pitcher!! There is always a liquor and wine deal as well, but they vary from week to week!!

Most clubs in our area raise the prices .25 or more to offshoot the costs of the entertainment... or at least help with it.

The venue I operate at does this, as have every other one I know of in this town that runs karaoke, unless they OWN it.

Don't know about any other place in our area, but the club I work out don't raise/lower prices.

Most bars I am familiar with don't raise the prices on karaoke (or band) nights.  I have come across a couple though that did - one downstate and another in the Chicago area - both $.50/drink increase.   No one seemed to complain, I guess they were used to it.

I always thought that prices went up ..Just a little to offset some of the costs

Most bars here have happy hours with LOWER prices but they usually end well before any entertainment starts.  Happy hours are usually run between 4PM - 7PM.

SHOT or drink specials are always run during the night but the bread and butter
BOTTLES OF BEER are usually the same price all night long , unless they raise them up the .25 -.50 per bottle.

I almost want to SUGGEST to this bar manager TO raise the price of the beer and Pay me the extra $50 a night I should be getting   LOL

Ok, my area is priced a little differently but there are a few places that increase the price with live entertainment.  As for prices...

Golden Lion Hotel
All domestic bottles - $4.25
Pitcher of Budweiser/Miller Lite - $13.00
Budwieser Draft - 16oz - $4.50
Well liqour - $4.75

Ted Stevens International Airport
Bottle Beer - $5.49
32 oz. Mug - MGD - $6.99
Well Liqour - $5.39 (but the 'well' is premium - Bacardi, Beefeater, etc).
Guiness Draught (on tap) 20 oz. - $7.49

The bowling alley I work at just changed all the pricing but they're just a little cheaper than the Golden Lion Hotel.

Also note that in Alaska we don't have ANY happy hour since it's against the law.  No ladies night where ladies drink free, no wristband nights (pay one price drink well/draft all night), or most other drink promotions because of the limitations of state law.  Remember that in Alaska you used to be able to walk into a bar and tell them to 'six-pack you'.  They put 6 drinks in front of you.  We are allowed by the state to be open from 8am to 5am though.  Most larger cities reduce this a little more to 2:30am, and 3am on Fri/Sat.  After the time listed you can't have ANYOBDY in the venue except employees cleaning up from that night or preparing for business the next day.  No after-hours parties for the employees either.

On a side note, when I was in Pensacola visiting my parents I ordered a Guiness and a Cosmo.  The total was $7 and I asked for which one.  When they said that was the total I had to laugh and say that was ok with me!

Good God... I wouldn't want to drink in Alaska!  We have 2 bars in my little town, they charge 3.75 and 3.85 for domestic beer, 4.50 for imported bee.  Highballs are 4.00 and caesars are 4.50.  They run drink specials on specific nights of the week, and prices never go up for entertainment.  Also, you have to remember, that's in Canadian funds, so the equivalent would be:
beer 3.19
highballs 3.40...
you get the idea

Holy crap!...that's alot of money for booze
Our venue has never raised prices for karoake...or bands.
They do run specials all night long...
most popular one i like...if you order a shot..and it's the last one in the bottle...it's yours free...

Shots are now pretty popular...LOL

shots 2.00 - 4.00 per shot

You guys are lucky cos in my country beers are taxed 200% or is it 300%.

Happy hrs price is Rm20 for 4, 325ml cans (5pm to 9pm)
Normal hrs           Rm 29

This is about the stand price in the city.

US 1 = RM3.8

Post subject:  Re: Price of Alcohol

Just FYI, beers and liquor are taxed over 200-300% in the US, depending on how you look at it. I used to work at a microbrewery in SC, and it cost us 1.9 cents to brew 12 oz. of beer, and 3.2 cents to bottle it. So each beer costs 5.1 cents to produce (labor not included, that may add an additional 8-10 cents per beer tops) and was taxed about 70 cents per bottle. We then sold the beer that cost about 13-15 cents each to produce and 70 each in taxes (that's about 90 cents in costs and 4.20 in taxes) for $6.99 per six pack retail and they sold for about $3.00-3.50 a bottle in most local bars. Our overall profit was about 30 cents a bottle after all was totaled on both ends. We made abotu twice that on kegged beer, and the keg was taxed at the same rate per 12 oz..  Beer that was transported for sale in NC was also taxed a yearly tariff rate, which was not much per beer (maybe an additional 3-5 cents or so) but was quite the big yearly sum.

So, depending on how you look at it, beer at my microbrewery was taxed a ton (over 400%)!!

And this is from a local microbrewery with about 20 employees that only sold in NC and SC. I can only imagine that the big boys produce a bottle of beer for about half that.

So think if they got rid of those taxes!! We would all be able to buy beer for like 50 cents each and the whole country would be drunk all of the time!!

In my area (New York City), the prices vary. Some places raise the prices of their drinks by $1 on "Karaoke Night." Some don't give "Buy-Backs" (I believe this is a New York thing). I have also been to some places where the Bartender has charged a different price to other people for the same drink/s.

Here's the average prices that I've seen/paid in NY:
Bottled Beer and Malt Beverages (such as Smirnoff's Ice): $4.00
Pint of Beer on Tap: $4.00
Mixed Drinks/Frozen Drinks: $4.50-$6.00
Shots: $4.00

American Legion Halls tend to be $1 - $2 cheaper per drinks.

Wow, I think I'll stick to my hole-in-the-wall bar.  :D  All prices go up $.50 once I start, but these are some of the starting prices.

Domestic bottles - $2.10
Imports - $2.35
Soda Pop - $1.25/can
Bottled Water - $1

Cap't Morgan - $2.85
Bacardi - $2.80
Jack - $2.60
Cuervo - $3.30

Of course, the bad part is you go home with a pocket full of nickels and dimes. lol
