I have MP3's & CDG's that I would like to sing to and record on my computer.  I was wondering what recorder software you recommend. I am looking for something that I can add some effects to.  Since I'm just starting with pc recording, I don't want to invest a ton of money right now on software.  So, I was thinking about using some sort of shareware/freeware program. I do have a mic and I am also thinking about  purchasing headphones.

Any info is greatly appreciated! I am looking forward to listening to your music and hope to submit some of my songs soon!

Jennifer

This is a freeware and a good starting point for people just learning how to record. It has everything you need.Just download from here http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/

Or you may want to try another freeware Audacity which a number of people here use and recomend. get it here. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Good luck

edit:
You need a headphone to record cos you don't want the mic to pick up the music from your monitors

Audacity works real well--just connect a karaoke machine to your puter, record your tune and then export it in any format you want!

Works real well for me. Ive sent mp3's Ive made on it down to Singers showcase.

Thanks so much.  I just installed Audacity.  Hopefully it will be fairly easy to figure out! I'm looking forward to recording my 1st song. :)
