Post subject:  Developer of Autoname (Uses KJ Pro Database) ?

I have been trying to locate the developer of Autoname which is shown to be Rad-Soft Designs during startup. So far I have not had any success. Is there anyone whom might know how to contact them?

Anyone who uses this application or KJ Pro knows that the KJ Pro song database has quite a few errors. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to fix them but here is the kicker....

Autoname ONLY uses the MASTER database. If you correct this database, and then the next time you update it, you will delete ANY corrections or additions that you may have made.

It would be REALLY NICE if you had the option to use either the MASTER or the PERSONAL database. At lease the PERSONAL database doesn't get deleted when you update!

I have written KJ Pro and they are not very receptive to correcting errors or adding missing data.

My last resort to making the KJ database more 'correct', would be to write an application to perform updates in a more resonable manner.

I have 30 years of software development experience (Mostly C/C++) but I have NEVER had to work with a database (BUT I'm willing to try!!). I am currently disabled (For the past seven years) and have LOTS of time!!!

I am unable to open the database using MSAccess which is the format that the database is in and I  am not certain why. It is very possible that I don't even have my MSAccess properly configured.

If someone could point me in the right direction, either by finding the deverlopers of Autoname or how to open the KJ Pro database for modification I would be willing to do any development.

Thanks !! :dunce:

Sounds like you have too much time on your hands. I never found any major mistakes with KJ Pro, if I did it's not worth worrying about it.

I've seen quite a few errors in kjpro, but not as many as in other databases, such as Airwer and others. Frankly, I just edit the mistakes...

I too would like to be able to correct the master database so the autonamer would link to it!

A helpful hint from DiamondD:

I had a need to use CDG Autoname 1.0 with a custom KJPro songbook,
even though CDG Autoname only uses the Master Songbook.
I have figured out a work-around and thought it might be useful
to others out there since I've seen similiar questions asked in the past.

Since CDG Autoname (CDGA) is uses KJPro's master songbook,
the trick was to figure out a way to replace the master songbook
with the custom songbook.
The trick is to use KJPro's database update function.
The good thing about the database update file is that it contains a listing of every song,
not just the new ones. So when it does an update, it erases all the original data
and reloads all new data.
What I did was made a custom database update file using the data
from my custom songbook.

NOTE: Although you're wiping out KJPro's master database with something
custom, this process is non-destructive since you should be able to easily re-apply
the original database update file and having everything back to normal.

BUT USE THIS INFO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

What's needed:
Microsoft Access and Excel ( I use Access 97 and Excel 97)
KJPro
a KJProUpdate.mdb database update file in your c:\ directory
( it doesn't have to be the latest update )

1) First thing you want to do
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR KJPROUPDATE.MDB FILE BACKED UP.
The update file in your c:\ directory will be wiped out, so if it's
your only copy, you need to back it up.

2) When you run the database update EXE file, KJPro puts the update
file in your c:\ directory. Run the update EXE and check that KJProUpdate.mdb
is in you c:\ directory.

3) Start KJPro and under Custom Songbooks, select View/Change
Custom Songbooks - Add Songs and select the songbook you want to use.
( if you want to use your Personal Master Database, you need to create
a custom songbook with all the discs in your Personal Master )

4) Select Export to Excel button to save your songbook in Excel format.
Exit out of KJPro.

5) Open up your songbook in Excel. Delete the SongbookName column.
Add a blank column between the Artist and Description columns.
Delete the first row of data which contains the headings of the columns.

6) Open up the KJProUpdate.mdb file in Access.
Right click the Master table and select Copy.
Right click again and select Paste.
A dialog box "Paste Table As" will open up.
Type in Master2 as the name and select the button "Structure Only"

7) Delete the table named Master and rename the table named Master2
to Master. You now have an empty database in the proper format.

8 ) In Access under Tools.Database Utilities, select Compact Database.
Exit out of Access.

9) Go to the c:\ directory and make a copy of the new empty database
so you can use it again in the future.

10) Start up Access again and open up your empty KJProUpdate.mdb file.

11) Go back to Excel and copy all the rows of data in your songbook.
(I highlight the first row of data and hold down the SHIFT key while I'm
pressing the END and ARROW DOWN keys to select all the rows,
then press CTRL+C keys to copy)

12) Go to Access and highlight the single blank row in the Master table
and select Paste ( or use CTRL+V keys). Your data should now be
pasted into the KJProUpdate.mdb file. Exit out of Access.

13) Start up KJPro again. From the main screen, select Update Master.
When finished, you can exit out of KJPro and CDGA will now be able
to use your custom songbook data.

14) To change your master database back to what it was,
just re-run your last KJProUpdate.mdb file.

15) In theory, this should work with other databases if you can
and import them into Excel with the data columns listed in this order
<title><artist><manu><description><disc><track>
where <manu> and <description> can probably be left blank

Hopefully you'll find this info useful

Is there any CDG AUTONAME FOR DUMMIES out there ?
I have both the  KJ PRO and CDG AUTONAME programs - When I open up CDG AUTONAME it tells me I need to have everthing in the default directoryof
kjpro ?  But the default directory is damar/KJ PRO or something like that.

CDGAUTONAME won't recognize KJ pro --When I change the default directory
I can't get KJ PRO to work ......  This computer stuff is confusing to me.....

If anyone has a link or instructions on how to use the autoname program let me know.   I need to get ripping my cdgs !!!

KJPro installs in C:\Program Files\KJPro
Check to see if it's install there.

If it's installed anywhere else, you'll probably want to uninstall it and re-install it.

Or you can just rename C:\Program Files\KJPro directory and reinstall KJPro.

CDG Autoname is looking in that directory for the master database.

Post subject:  Re: Developer of Autoname (Uses KJ Pro Database) ?

I NEVER would have thought of doing it the way you suggested!!

Apparently the KJPROUPDATE.MDB file is not protected in any way. I'm unable to confirm it at this point because my main system died (The one with MSAccess) .

Its a great idea! Maybe I can come up with a way automatically merge a 'corrected' database with the latest Update files. This way you would have all the latest entries PLUS any fixes that are needed!!

After I either get my old system working (Currently a dead motherboard), or install MSAccess on my son's system (what I'm using now), then I'll see what I can come up with. If I can get at least a semi-automatic process, I'll let you know...

Thanks Again for taking the time to explain how you did it!! :worship:
