Hello, An extremely ignorant "Newbie" here. Just to say hello. I am from England, live in Spain and have just discovered this site.
Got myself a iPAQ and have got a Karaoke software on it, however it only plays files with the ext "kar" Now I am looking for three files (Memory-from Cats, Love changes everything. From Aspects of love and finally Music of the night from Phantom of the Opera) which I can find easy enough on this really comprehensive site, but, showing my ignorance! i do not know where to look for these foles. Please can any expert point me in the right direction? All help would be gratefully received!

Hi mike, Welcome to SS.
If your iPAQ can read .kar file which is basically an mp3 file with lyric text embedded it then you should be able it use any mp3 backing track to sing your karaoke song. You will ofcorse have no lyric. Don't tell me you dont know where to get those mp3 files.

Hello "Bad Singer"
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read and answer my request for help.
Believe it or not I do understand your answer. Learning by the day! My problem is... I need the kar files because as you so rightly point out, they have the lyrics embedded in them! OR are there other types of files which also have the lyrics embedded in them but NOT kar but which can also be played on my iPAQ.
Just read that, sounds a bit convoluted! Basically I need the words as well as the song! Okay, so I admit I have the voice of a "KRAKEN" but it's fun!
Once again, many thanks for your help.
Mike

I got it, you need to see the lyric to sing. There are other file formats for songs that have lyric embedded it it such as midi, and vcd. Mp3+g are a bit diffrent ;the lyrric is a sperate file with the same ex file mane.
My best bet to get those files are (I hate this) Kazza.

Hello Badsinger,
Once again I thank you for your good advice. however I have a limitation. and that is what the iPAQ will accept as a program. it seems it will only accept "karpocket" as the karaoke program which means I can only play songs with the "kar" extension.
Now, I have been looking for these three songs, "Music of the night" "Love changes everything" and "Memories" (what makes you think I like musicals?) on a number of sites, karuniverse.com bibliomidi.org midikaraoke.com sitevip.net and inetxs.com
I have scoured the lot of them and manged to get (Music of the night" but I cannot find any others!
Please do you think you could point me in the direction of other sites that have kar extensions on thier files?
Once again I really appreciate the help you are giving me! It seems a vast and complicated world out there and far more complex than I thought!
Mike

Hi Mike!! While I'm not familiar with .kar extensions I am very familiar with mp3+g files. They can be found quite easily on WinMX as zip files--each zip contains 2 files, 1 mp3 & 1 cdg. If you don't have the capability to play mp3+g files you can split the zip and use the mp3 portion of it and print the lyrics up from a lyric site from the web. Kar extensions are not very common so you'll have some difficulty finding them (which I believe you're already finding out ) Hope this helps. Cat

Hello Badsinger,
Well, after listening to your advice I have DELETED my "Karpocket"! I have now downloaded a different program called "Karaoke Player" (very originial!) from www.karaokeisland.com . I have also downloaded one song, would you believe.."Coming round the mountains!" Well, At least I know it works!
Please could you tell me where I can get the MP3 with embedded lyrics from? I looked at the "icon" for the above mentioned song and it looked exactly like a normal media music icon I cannot tell the difference between a MP3 which has lyrics embedded and a normal MP3.
Once again thanks for your help, I must be really showing my ignorance! But with this I can pop down to the beach all by myself and endevour to learn the words as well as the rythm.
Mike
