Hi there.
I found this site awhile back while searching for karaoke in my area and enjoyed listening to all of your songs and reading the constructive comments you provide to each other. I liked it so much that I decided to become a member. I am from the Pittsburgh area and began singing karaoke for the first time about a year ago. Since then, I think I'm addicted to it and I drive my fiance crazy dragging him to karaoke bars every weekend (or at least whenever I can get him to go)! I'm not the best singer out there but it is fun and I have enjoyed singing since I was little so it is a great way for me to express myself.
Now that I've given you all a little background on myself, I am wondering where in the world to start so that I can begin posting songs here. I have unsuccessfully tried to find information online. There is so much out there and so much to learn so I figured a good place to start would be to ask you guys since you do it all the time!
Can I use just my desktop to record karaoke songs and sumbit them? I'm just doing this for fun, so I don't want to put a whole lot of money into equipment or software. If someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction it would be wonderful.
JB

Hi JB, Welcome to SS.
Yes you can just use your pc to recored you karaoke singing. what you need is a mic that jacked to your sound card; a recording software and some karaoke backing tracks to sing to.
Free recording software are KRISTAL at http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/
or Audacity at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. Both are easy to use.
Then you will need to convert your song file from wav. to mp3 for this you may want to use LAME.

JB! Well Welcome to the Site Audacity is a great program and it's totally free, you will need a microphone, and keep in mind, the more you spend, the better your going to sound, for MP3 conversion, I use DBpoweramp, it's really easy to use, if you need any advice just shoot me a PM or something, good luck

Hi Alison...
Well, I'd say your well on your way hun.. Your mixes and sings lately have been outstanding. Every backing, every mix is sorta different, so just take your time veiwing your finish products before subbin um. I can't tell ya how I Kicked my butt and heard something I wished I did better later on. .. Happy your recording is doing so well now. Love that voice of yours.. :hug:
Mark =))

Wow...almost forgot I even posted this until today when I read your comment on my sub. I think I've come a long way since my first sub, but there is still a long way to go. There are so many different effects, blah, blah, blah. I still plan on sending you a vocal track w/ backing to see how you work your magic, country boy!!
It takes awhile to learn everything, but I am having so much fun and, as you can see, have definitely become addicted to this site. Thanks for replying Mark...better late than never, right??

ok: I've downloaded audasity, and the LAME program..
All I need is a mic... anyone have any suggestions. price isn't really the only factor for quality reproduction.
