I know noone here probably cares lol, but I am fed UP with my soundcard right now.  It's driving me CRAZY.  I was trying to listen to some songs, and on about the 5th one it squealed and died.  It's making it IMPOSSIBLE for me to record right now.  I did my latest with it, but it toook forever with all the timeouts it took...

I suppose I should be more mad at my puter than the card.  After all, this IS a much better card, and I can already tell the difference in sound quality.  The problem is that this card is beyond my OLD computer's capability.  It's an EMU0404 which is supposed to be one of the best ones you can get for under 100 dollars.. better than Soundblasters or the other ones they sell at places like Best Buy and such.  I was soo excited to get it, but I forgot the tiny detail that this computer is 6 years old now and probably wouldn't be up to date enough to "hang" with the new card.  How naiive I was...

How much longer will I have to hear the dreaded beep while my computer freezes and then have to restart to get sound back??  How long before I get to experience the joys that I know this new card could bring....  How long???..

I think we're gonna have to suck it up and get a new computer, as this one has surely run it's course.  I've already got my eye on which one I want, and hopefully we'll have it by next week.. *keeping fingers and toes crossed*.. Till then my lovely EMU.. I'll try to survive your temper tantrums and dream of the bliss that surely awaits me when you've been placed in a home that meets your higher standards...  Then and only then when the sweet music returns, will my soul be at peace...

Thank you for listening to my rambling rant, and now back to your regularly scheduled mayhem.....

So sorry to hear that...computer problems suck. I always love listening to your subs.

I am out of town yet again with my laptop and, it generally works well, but something is messed up, some software conflict or something, so whenever I listen to songs here (or any songs, even my own from my hard drive), there is a regular sound like a click or something that interferes with the sound. I try to ignore it but it is not good.  It's like the song will be playing and then every 30 seconds the sound slightly warps.  Very annoying!  I can't wait to get home and listen again on my pc.

OMG someone actually talked to me??! :O  This board seems so dead, I never thought it would happen..  hehe.  Anyhow, Hiya Suzanne.. YES computer woes are the worst.  I was just fed up with mine as I could neither listen NOR record, and it just seemed that it was dying a slooow death.  It was 6 years old after all.  That's past senior citizen in computer years.  BUT we finally gave in and got a new computer.  It's really cool... well compared to our old one, and cool to a geek like me lol.  Our old puter's processor went like 667 mhz, came with 7 gigs of hd space (though we upgraded that), and 64mb of memory... How outdated is that??  We upgraded the memory some, but with that processor and such, it's no wonder it couldn't keep up with the new sound card.

Our new one has 1 gig of memory a faster processor (I'm thinking AMD Athalon 64?), a dvd burner, 250 gigs of hd, and we sprung for the 17 inch lcd.. this screen is freakin' AMAZING.  We just kept starting at it when we first got it lol.  Our old one was one of those big OL' clunky ones.  I never knew just how clear and awesome these lcd ones are.  I almost started crying when I saw the 3d screensaver for the first time... lol.  AND we got lucky, as our salesman accidentally gave us the wrong printer to go with this package.  We checked the card and then went to go see what our printer was going to look like.  I was so dissapointed.. It was the cheapest HP little thing.  But I figured, oh well.. it still beats our old one!  Then we were checking out, and I noticed that the printer didn't look like I remembered.. but I didn't get a really good look at it, so I thought I might be mistaken.   My hubby didn't notice at all.  Then we were unloading the car and he says.. "I think that we may have gotten the wrong printer".. and I was like, I thought so.

Turns out, he gave us one of the upper models worth nearly 200 dollars LOL.  It's one of those printer, scanner, copier deals with a little lcd screen on it, and places to put your memory and picture cards in it.  I nearly busted a gut laughing about that one.  So I think we made out pretty darn good, and I couldn't be happier :))  I'm gonna try recording on this puppy later on today to see how it handles.  Hopefully it'll be alot smoother and quicker than my old computer... Anyhow

I think I've blabbed about it enough... I sure do hope you get home soon Suzanne, so you can start listening and recording in peace.  I know how annoying that must be trying to listen with that little sound, and it's always just so much more comfy to be able to do this at home...  :)

Lol Jazzy..... Isn't it just the END of the WORLD when something messes up with your recording or singing equipment?  I'm the same way.
My hubby has always said "You act like you'd die if you ever lost your guitar or your karaoke stuff or your computer"........ and I'm like...... DUH!#*!!

Hope you get it fixed soon.  That stinks.

I think you got the same kind of printer I have, if it is- you're gonna love it. I just put my memory card in the front of my printer & they start installing on my comp- or you can print  from there too. Best investment I made in a long time.  (well, besides my new guitar strings..... and my newest karaoke cdg, lol)

You're correct, I own an EMU-1212m and over all, it has a great sound, but there having serious driver problems at Creative, can't listen while I type, the sound will break and will mute!

They've updated the driver not long ago and it's now a little better but not perfect!  Also, don't even think of using two creative cards, like an EMU and an Audigy card install, the system will crash when you turn it on!

The problem is not the folks at EMU, the hardware used is excellent and they sure know what it takes to make a good card, it's the other side, you know the folks from Sound Blaster who only knows about gaming... but not the pro audio!

The EMU cards will not support the key changer EAX Console from Creative, so sad, it's the best key changer on the market!! Obviously, they would need some help in this company, any programmer out there???

Glad you are getting a new computer, Jazzy! I got two old ones, a pc that still has Windows 98, from 2000; and a laptop from 2001.  But both have had a little bit of upgrade. My husband uses the old one and always complains how slow it is...but he has one at work so this is just his "play" machine. I got a new one with Windows XP in January 2004 and I still enjoy it.  It is so much larger and faster, it's amazing. I have a flat panel or whatever they are called, too, but frankly, my old CRT was much larger so I kinda miss that! LOL!! But this one was free so I can't complain.
It came with great surround-sound Altec Lansing speakers, too, so the sound is fantastic.

I am home now...we just got back tonight.  Two weeks was way too long, plus my husband got sick so the last week was not much fun.  I can hardly wait to get my karaoke machine back and start recording again!!

Computers suck. 6 years that has to be a pent 3 450mhz at best.

I buy a new one every year they are cheap and disposable.
It's easier to buy a new one they are only $500. at $1.50 a day why not buy a new one. or even better pick up a $300 Dell

You are correct that is a decent sound card.
Soundblasters are just junk.

I hate to admit, but yep, you should probably upgrade your computer every year or so... more than two years, you're hopelessly out of date at least on PROCESSOR speed!
