Hi, How is everyone tonight.  Can anyone please help and recommend a fairly easy to operate and decent recording software or program that I could download. I am very new at this and it does not have to be top notch so to speak.  Thanks so mych,  I appreciate it.  I am not sure how to check the various ones that are MP3 format in advance?  Thanks again.  Pam

I need the same information, so I went along with you suggestion and downloaded Kristal.  When I opened the file I became completely lost.  Is there any direction or help files with the program.

I prefer Audacity because it's available for multiple platforms.  It's REAL easy to use - just open and click record for most people.

If you have questions on Audacity feel free to ask here as well.  I'll try to answer your questions or someone else here will take a stab at it.

Help help!  Audacity is driving me batty!!  I've read all of the posts I could find, as well as the FAQ's and instructions on soundforge's website, but couldn't find anything about it.  

For some reason I can't hear the imported karaoke track now that I've recorded the vocal track.  I could hear it just fine before!  I've tried adjusting the order, turning the "mute" on and off, even doing a quick mix... nothing works.  I can tell it still has the data based on the sound wave, but there's no output of that specific track.

Do I need to start over and re-record?  If so, is there a specific order in which I should import and record?  How do I listen to the backing track and record at the same time?

As for logistics, is there any software that displays the graphics, or do I just have to know when & what to sing?  I'm eager to figure this out!

There are a couple different ways to do this.  I use an external mixer so my setup is is a little different than most, but I'll outline another way as well.

1. Play track on normal karaoke player w/ sound input going into mixer.
2. Sing into mic connected to mixer.
3. Record the output of the mixer to Audacity.

You can pan the vocals left and the music right so that you are recording the two seperately so you can adjust the levels on the computer and add effects, etc sepereately after you turn the two stereo tracks into a pair of mono tracks.


If your mic is hooked up to the computer.

1. Play the track in something like WinAmp or other pc based CDG player.
2. Sing into mic connected to computer.
3. Record in Audacity.

If this isn't working or if you think it isn't working you can check within the preferences where there is an option for playthrough.  This allows the music coming into audacity to be played out to the speakers.  Make sure you are set to record from the appropriate sound source as well (if you have more than one sound card).


If neither of these seem to work (depending on your setup) then I recommend you posting a little more information about how your hardware is setup so we can assist further.
