Anyone using "stage lighting" in their normal KJ setups?
What are you using ? Is it overhead lights or floor mounted?
Do some singers object or is it welcomed to have some lighting effects-
I'm not talking about DJ flashing lights but some colored mood and spot lights to
make your show a little ''SPECIAL" Currently I'm without a steady GIG which is given me too much time to reflect on how to make my show JUST A LITTLE more special than the next guy. Stage Lighting came to mind :thinkin:

8 par 46 cans. 4 in front, 4 in back. Reds & Blues in front, orange, red & white in back at a softer level than the front. All controlled by NSI 8 channel light mixer. Lights add a nice flair to any show. Just another aspect that should've helped raise prices over the years, but then you get several kj's who think it's "just" karaoke, why should I have lights. It's still a "live" show - regardless of the singers, how many live shows do you see without some kind of stage lighting?
Karaoke is a cross between live & dj, should have stage AND dance floor lighting.

Depends on the show but when I do take lights.
2 American DJ Deluxe Scan250's 2 American DJ color changer 250's and 2 American DJ Agressors. Run the aggressors into a dimmer pack for dmx control on /off. I have a really sweet leviton dmx controller.
I have some more lights mostly it is what I feel like packing up and taking with me.

My normal karaoke gigs in the taverns... No way. Too much hassle. Now if I had a place where I mounted my equipment inside and left it there all the time, well maybe invest in lights that hung from ceiling...
Otherwise, I save the lights for weddings, private parties, special occasions, or if I felt like impressing someone...

I bring 4 par 36 cans with me most of my gigs, for my little place I don't bring any, and for special show I have 4 american DJ pocket scans and a couple of disco lights I'll bring with me.

I agree. I'm trying to think of ways to make "my show" something differant.
Something with a "flair" stage lighting (in the right venue) could be just that.
Of course you might need a stage or at least a stage area LMAO Some of the venues I've played in the past couldn't accomodate 1 par light LMAO .
So my thining is now to look for BIGGER clubs and put on a karaoke SHOW.
Hopefully this will raise the price I can ask.
I've seem some starter sets consisting of 4 par 38 's with stands & controller -
Chauvet or American DJ --- Anyone have a preferance?

I use a small truss with 2 stands. 8 par 36 cans, a set of 4 chauvet tracers, a chauvet alien, a laser widow, and a moonflower.

You have an effect mic; what the heck does it do? (sorry dumb question and for hijacking the trade).

hehe, just a cheap little mic that the show patrons love! You can change the pitch of your voice, making it higher or lower, and there are a few built in patterns that make you sound like a robot, make a man sound female, etc. Scored it for 5 bucks in the clearance bin at radio shack, but it has a decent sound and is wonderful to work a crowd with whenever you want to do something unexpected

This isn't a very good shot, I didn't even have my flame lights turned on I just realized - but you can see them hanging in each corner.
