There are variation in every manufacturer.

Chartbuster has a reputation for putting out excellent coutry discs.
Sound Choice has a great reputation for most of what they put out.
I've had good luck with Karaoke Bay discs.

Again, it varies from manufactuer to manufacturer, disc to disc, and even track to track.

On a side note, a search of the forum will turn up a number of threads where this exact topic is discussed quite throughly.

Most mfgs all have their good points and their bad points so it's really a personal preference as far as what you consider the best.  CB SC TU MM and all other cdg manufactures all have those they shine on but then again they all have some stinkers--trust me, I know lol.  I've been a KJ for almost 14 yrs and I have some of just about every cdg brand ever made.  Experiment is the best advice I can give then choose what works best for you.  Also compare songlists for the diff discs available then make your decision that way, that also helps  :yum:

Sound Choice:  Best overall.  However, one of the slowest at getting out new releases.  If I need certain songs, I'll go shopping for these first.
Top Hits Monthly: Best selection.  A lot of their "Rock" songs are not produced by Sound Choice, and if they are, not until later on in the year.  By the way, Top Hits definately has the best sound for their Alternative Rock titles.
Pop Hits Monthly:  See Top Hits Monthly.  However, I do like the graphics, colors on the duets better in Pop Hits.
Stardisc:  Great for Country.  Stardisc is the fastest at getting out new releases.  With Stardisc, you have country songs that haven't even hit the radio yet.  (Don't get "Stardisc Pop" though, they suck.)
Music Maestro:  Decent CD+G, I like them, but, rumor has it they are going out of business.
Chartbuster: Always seems to be a beat behind, I really recommend Stardisc for Country
Top Tunes:  Seems to be hit & miss...  I usually try one of the other labels above first.

For new releases...I have been buying Stardisc for country.  Rock/Pop/R&B, I've been swapping between Top & Pop Hits, depending on which songs I want.
For updating my library with older songs...  I'll search for Sound Choice first, unless it's a country song, then you can usually find it on Stardisc on sale somewhere.

Just my two nickels worth...

Completely agree, don't know what is being heard, but Star discs are terrible.
