My collection are all in VCD. To tranfer to HD I click drag and drop. the files then will be data files. Is there any other way?

You can just copy the dat files from the VCD's and change the extension to .mpg to get them to play.  The dat files are just mpeg 1 compressed video (SVCD's are MPEG 2 compressed video) and play in nearly every normal player with just changing the extension.  I've done this before to watch movies on my laptop.

As for the SCDG which I am assuming you are referring to as the CAVS disc will depend on if it's a professional disc or if it's a homemade one.  If it's a professional disc you can get software to play it pretty cheaply.  If it's homemade the software to play it is about $70 and available from CAVS.  If you use Virtual CD/DVD you could copy it to the hard drive and play it in the CAVS software by pointing to the different drive letters.
