I do not have any vcd's to test but: Use cdr win to extract a vcd into bin files. Then use mp3+g tools to extract bin files to mp3+g Convert Mp3+g's back to bin using mp3+g toolz Burn as CD+g with CD-rwin. Seems like a pain but in theroy it will work. I need to convert a cd+g to vcd to see if it does work. I may be able to do that Sun or Mon when I am off. If someone would like to try let us know, but like I said I'm on it in the next day or so. |

ALL my collection are vcd. Its not just the lyrics, there is the video background that will be the problem. Just try converting those mtv song video clip to cdg; just cant see how it can be done. Then you will have to deel with the mutliplex audio track. |

Thanx for the replys, but it seams like it's going to be hard to do... I tryed to make a cue file and use mp3+g tool, but it didn't work. Any how, if some body have any other ideas, please let me know, it seams like it's some converters that make cdg to vdc, so i dont understand why it can't be done the other way... |

I am not an expert at this but may be able to shed a light on the subject. First of all VCD is a video format that supports full motion video. CD-G is a format that is audio and graphics only. The way it works is that CD-G, the lyrics are done in graphics format. The color change you see is actually an overlay of another graphics files over original graphics file. When the lyric changes, the screen is wiped clean and new lyrics are shown. This is fairly easy to convert to VCD since it's like converting bunch of pictures in to video. Think Ken Burns who used a bunch of photos to make his documentary. As for the other way, VCD has lyrics embedded in to the video information. It would be near impossible to extract just the lyrics and audio from video segment. Think of it this way. You are watching a video of a rose garden. You want to extract only the audio and the images of yellow roses transferred over but ignore the rest of the colored roses. It would not be possible to do using software. Since CD-G only diplays graphics not full motion video, it would near or fully impossible to transfer data over from VCD using a piece of software. I hope this helps. |

You can convert CDG's to VCD but not the other way around. The CDG's are two sepereate parts. An audio section written as standard redbook audio to the disc and then a graphics subsection written that supports only 16 colors (IIRC). The graphics portion is a sort of subcoding on the disc that was discovered early on. I've always wondered why disc companies didn't use the CDG portion to display the album, artist, and track information along with different information about the track while it played, but I digress. When you convert a CDG to VCD (or any other video format) you are creating a single video stream from the graphics portion. Once converted you can't go back to CDG because there isn't a way to rip the video stream back to CDG coding. It's just the way it is... But on a side note, most devent CDG players will play VCD without any problems and most handle the multiplex vocals without any issues. |
