I run my Karaoke show from my laptop with Hoster. Even though Hoster has run flawless since day one, I always have in the back of my mind, what happens if my laptop or external HD fail? I don't currently have an external CDG player that I can use as a backup. But if I did and I had computer failure, I could run home and get my discs and play the party that way.
In my quest for a complete backup machine... I want a machine that will play conventional CDs along with CDG, MP3 & WMA discs. Why MP3 and WMA discs? Because I create party discs with 200+ songs that I use to play as background music.
I found the API DVD-701 for about $219.00, but I've never heard anything about it. Any comments?
I also found a couple of cheaper machines, one called a Sungale DVD 9100 for $79.00 and a Mixsonic MS-989 for $89.00, both of which also play the formats that I need. I have not had a very good experience with cheap Chinese players, but then again, you get what you pay for, right?
Bearing in mind that this will be a backup machine what are your recommendations?
As always... thanks!

I carry and use a second notebook and hard drive. I found it was the easiest.
With wanting a machine to do more functions I would spend the extra money one a player. The RSQ CK 1 seems to be the hot player right now but has a price tag of $750 Then there is the RSQ NEO-500 at $230. Most player that play DVD support MP3 but these do not say if they do. The support NEO-CD+g which is a compressed karaoke format but I'm actually unfamilar with it, but I think you can create your own NEO karaoke disc which are burned DVD's in a compressed format that will hold 500+ songs that's what I was told by a KJ that bought one, but sometimes he is full of it.

I've got one that I use to play the several karaoke DVD's that I've got as well as a back up for my regular player (JVC single tray)the controls are very similiar to the JVC so it's easy to use for me. I like the fact it came with rack mount brackets, so it screws right into my rack
