Just wondering about experiences taking someone out for the first time to a place to Karaoke. So far this has not been a good idea for me. I must not be putting my best foot forward :) Kind of reminds me of the movie "Hitch" where the guy dances crazy and he thinks he is a good dancer and he will impress his date. Then Hitch tells him never to dance like that again :) Of course, it is a movie, and in the end the crazy dancing guy is rewarded for "being himself." Ha ha...it's amazing what the movies expect us to believe sometimes :) |

In this case, the lyric of the song is more important than the vocal ability of the singer. This is assuming you can sing on key |

Dave- what the heck is THAT supposed to mean? What's wrong with being girl crazy? Or "woman crazy" as you put it? Should us gals not be "boy crazy" either? Darn it, then I've been living my life ALL WRONG............ NOW you tell me. And Dave- NO, I'm not stalking you. Just had to put my disclaimer in place. |

I guess I just think excessive love is unhealthy emotional dependency. People looking for someone else to make them happy when they should try to be happy on their own. But that's my opinion and I don't understand relationships very well. |

I have done the first date at Karaoke several times. I guess my thinking was...might as well let him know up front what I really like to do. If he can't tolerate it then........he's not the one for me! |

The place that I Karaoke is a nice place in the suburbs that doesn't get overly disgusting after midnight. Mostly married couples and other couples. I think I once looked at a girl too much and almost got beat up. I don't remember even talking to her. If you want to pick up girls it's best to go to a place where most of the girls are wanting to be picked up. Karaoke is typically not that environment. |

Well it would be pretty hard to tolerate a woman who sings all the time. Like Mary Poppins, for example. I can imagine waking up on a Monday morning with her singing "A Spoonfull of Sugar" and I'd probably shoot her :) |

Looking at a woman too much without an approach or saying hi is plain creepy and would make her feel as though you are up to no good. It would make her feel as if you were starting to stalk her. |

You don't have to look at a woman to get involed in a fight over her....All it takes is for her to be seen by her boyfriend/husband looking at you. That's right, all you gotta do is walk in the door and belly up to the bar and then the next thing you know some guy wants to fight you cause he saw his gal checking you out....You ain't done nothing cept order a drink and you end up with some guy in your face wanting to fight......Hey, if that's the case, then you got it going on and you need to ball up your fists and wade thru a few faces if you expect to exploit it to the fullest. Don't avoid the places where all that happens....Learn to survive it instead.....You will get real action there. |

I agree with Keith. Though I still am a stalker :) I don't want to be involved in other peoples' little dramas. I have enough issues of my own :) |

Karaoke for a first date 'could' be fun. The trick would be to select a venue where there is plenty of other stuff to do (pool, air hockey, shuffleboard, etc) to keep them from being 'tied' to karaoke if they aren't as into it as you are. Remember, karaoke isn't everyone's cup of tea and many have their own misconceptions about what karaoke is really like so they don't like it before they even show up. They can then spend all that time being upset that they were made to go to a karaoke show even if it was all professional singers. Of course, there is much to be said for getting them to do something they have never done before. When I was living in Pensacola, I used to take almost every date to Weatherford's for rock climbing on my first date. I'd tell them to wear comfortable clothes and take them rock climbing. It was a sneaky way of getting them in a harness and on a rock wall where I had a 'reason' to stare at their butt, er, to keep an eye on them while belaying. I'd then take them to O'Charley's for a nice dinner (casual steakhouse - no ties allowed!). Sometimes I'd take them for a walk down by the bluffs on Scenic Highway (this was before they started robbing people down there) to enjoy the view afterwards. And no, this isn't what I always did for a first date, but I've done it a number of times with excellent results (almost always had a second date anyway). I never had a complaint about this as a first date as it was always lighthearted and a great way to spend a little time relaxing and just being with each other in an informal environment. You can also avoid the embarassing dancing and conflicts in music choices and other issues that come up sometimes with going out to a night club. First dates are all about getting to know each other, having a good time, and deciding if you want a second date. It's a great time to try something new for one or both of you. |
