:( :( :( :( I've been singing/guitar playing for about 2 years now, and in the beginning of June picked up this weird cold/flu whatever that just took my ability to sing away, I mean like forgetaboutit!!!!! :D :D :D :D Its back about 95% now, but what a bum trip. First time this has happened to me and geez puts you in the dumps. I know many of you folks here have been singing for years and have gone through this before and are probably used to it, but for me it waz the first time and I didn't like it. Russ |

Yeah it sucks, when being a KJ /DJ is your profession, you pray to god that's it busy and you do not have to sing. |

I hear ya, Russ!!! I've had 4 colds/sinus infections already this year (at least I think they're colds, perhaps allergies?) and am just now getting over this last one, and it's only July. I used to go out for karaoke a lot on the weekends, but have really cut back... but I'll tell ya: When I was going out a lot, those colds/infections really put a damper on things, because the first thing that gets affected is my throat. My vocal chords get some annoying coating and I feel like I have to clear my throat every 5 seconds. I just forget about singing when this happens. And since these lovely ailments like to hang around for at least a couple of weeks (one of them lasted 2 months) I was going NUTS! I couldn't sing karaoke, and I couldn't record anything. I'm hoping this is it for the year. I think I'm all paid up..... |

That does suck, Russ! I only had that happen once with a cold, I didnt take care of myself and got bronchitis, then laryngitis. It really sucked. A few weeks ago I did something similar (and more temporary) to myself when I strained my voice. So, I feel for ya!! |

Russ, I hear ya too. I get a throat thing going on just about every time I go out to karaoke. The cigarette smoke will set it off for me about 90% of the time. Then I'm hoarse for a few days. And yeah- it Pi$$e$ me off big time when I can't sing. It really bums ya out. Drinks lots of warm green tea with lemon in it. Don't let anyone tell ya it aint good for the throat cause yes it is........ trust me, that's all I ever use. And if anyone knows how to get rid of darn throat irritations, I do, cause I get them so darn much. You want me to bring ya some chicken soup? :yum: |

It happened to me last week. A couple of out-of-town friends came to visit and I had been talking to them for months about singing karaoke. The first guy shows up Monday afternoon, and we sing for an hour or so at home. By the next day I've got laryngitis and can't even talk normally. The second guy shows up that morning. They stay at my house for two days and we even go to a karaoke show one night but I can't sing. They give me the "we'll sing, but only if you will" crap, so none of us end up singing. A day after they leave, my voice comes back. They probably think I made the whole thing up. |

Yep, that happended to me but in a permanent way. I used to be able to hit high note, albeit falsetto, very crisp and even get some vibrato. I was able to sing in the range of Extreme, Bee Gees or even Leo Sayles. Now for some reason, after my last bout of cold, that I can't sing those high notes. I mean it cracks and even refuse to make a note. I was depressed for a while and considered going to see a specialist. I still may do it. What I did was to shift my musical style. Now I sing Billy Joel, Elton John, Jimmy Buffet etc. I am forced to sing songs within my range. That limits songs I can sing but at least I am singing. I think I will go see a specialist and see if there is anything wrong with my vocal chord. I hope it's not something that can't be fixed but who know. If life deals you a lemon you make a lemonade. |
