Yep, I actually have a Vocopro player in my rack setup, the DVG-480K.  It has fast seek times and plays the DVD format too in progressive scan which is great for those times when I run a projector.  Not to mention it will play almost any type of disc I slap in it.  Just don't use the mic inputs, use your mixer for that ;-)

Only thing I don't like about it was that to rack mount it proper you need 3 full rackspaces open for a unit that only really takes up 1 1/2 rackspaces.  You can get away with only having 2 open rackspaces but than it is only held in by the bottom 2 screws thanks to the oddball mounting plates it comes with.

Anyone else play with this particular player?

I have not tried that model but I am happy with what I just got, Acesonic DGC-500. I have never seen any reviews on it but I liked the spec so I bought it. It has 5 disk changer and while a disk is playing, you can bring out the drawer and put other disks in to the drawer without interrupting the song. It plays all kinds of disks, CD, CD-G, DVD etc. I don't use the mic input, I use my Mackie mixer for that. It has S-Video, composite and component outputs for video. It has an optical 5.1 output and separate 1.5 RCA output with sub out as well.

So far I like the way it's been handling. Couple of things I have noticed. The disk loading time is a bit lower for my taste, about 3-5 sec for each disk. Once loaded, the seek time is acceptable. I have not had extensive use so I am not sure about it's ability to handle rough handling and long term reliability.

One of these days I will see if I can get that Vocopro and do a comparison but not for a bit.

Yep... Bought because it is rack mountable... The tray is not very sturdy so be careful... On the second time I used it... the tray got stuck open and wouldn't close. I sent it to VocoPro under warranty... They sent it back and the door still had to be forced to close it... I sent it to VocoPro again... they sent me back a new one and I sold it on EBay... Never again! Every product I've owned from VocoPro had been cheesy, but I'm just stupid... I bought a total of 2 of their mixers and two of their players... only one of their players was decent... I've learned to ask here... because I did these purchases before discovering this community. Good Luck!

Nope, absolutely would not bother with their products again (maybe the external key changer) even if they gave me free products to promote!

By the time I was done with my all-out investment into the karaoke business I didn't have much $ cash left for a TV stand...

Enter the VocoPro MS-76 TV/Monitor Stand.  At almost half the price of the other stands I've seen, the $59.99 has been a steal.  It's sturdy and has microphone holders.  I'd recommend this to anyone.

My two nickels worth...

I purchased a used Vocopro Idol 200W that was only a coulple of months old for an extremely low price.  I posted this on another thread and received the KJs' gave had the same reaction they have had here.  So I e-mailed they and asked they to visit this site and asked why all the KJs' feel as they all seem to do. The uint I purchased I spent less that five hundred dollas - I'm not a KJ and I'm new to singing and Karoake, so I don't know enough to tell the difference between good and bad.  The unit I have sounds and plays great - but then I my be tone death.  Anyway, here's Vocopro's answer to my e-mail just in case you missed it in the other thread.

Mr. McGinley:

Yes, We had some trouble early days on some VocoPro products. Mainly on the Karaoke Amplifiers. The problem was the Amp. will stop working after few years or few month. At first we did not know why. So we just repair or replace them to the end user. But it will come back again in a few month.

Finally We figured out most of the end user that's having problem was using big P.A. speakers rated 2 or 3 time more then the Amp. (this was before VocoPro come out of our own Vocal speaker to match the system). This sounded GREAT in the beginning BUT it was too much for the Amp. to handle. So it had much higher failed rate then our normal rate of 1-2%.

The VocoPro IDOL use components that match each other & was tested for 6 month BEFORE we bring it out to the public. So we know this is a GREAT unit. The only thing we suggest is that if You need to run additional or bigger speakers to expand the sound. please add a P.A. amp. like our VP-300,VP-600 or the VP-2100 to drive the additional / bigger speakers.

Please fell comfortable that you made the best choice. VocoPro have been the leader in Professional Karaoke hardware for 12 years. And we are proud of the product & the service we offer. If you have additional concern or commons. Please fell free to contact us by e-mail or by phone.

Happy Singing,

Best Regards,

Only vocopro experience I had was with their player...

While the auto-cue seemed to really be a boon to the business, it still has graphics errors, and lots of reports from end users on speed breaking down, etc.

Post subject:  Re: Some dislike Vocopro....but I like the player I picked up from them.

A normal failure rate of 1-2%?  That means that up to 2 out of every hundred units sold fails.  I wouldn't buy anything with that high of a rate of failure.  I used to buy Quantum hard drive because the MTBF(Mean Time Between Failures) for them was 500,000 hours and nearly twice the rate of other drives.  Can you imagine what kind of reputation a car manufacturer would have if even 1 car out of a hundred just failed?  To give you an idea - there was a computer manfacturer that sold based on price only called Packard Bell who had a failure rate of less than 1% but still pretty high.  Just ask anyone in the computer field about what kind of a reputation they have!

I didn't buy Vocopro based on the response of others here when I asked.    I'm glad I didn't but sometimes you get a gem out of a company like this.  If the unit performs well for you then I'm happy you found something that meets you needs at a great price.  But based on the past experiences of others here I wouldn't purchase any electronics with the VocoPro name on them.  TV stands and other items I might because a simple mechanical device is much less likely to have problems than electronics.

Post subject:  Re: Some dislike Vocopro....but I like the player I picked up from them.

I've owned 2 products from Vocopro - The first buy was the KJ7000 mixer -
Conceptually  a great Karaoke Mixer -  The LED lights on the mixer went the 1st time I used it ..No big deal really ... 2 mic channels also went within months and all were covered by warranty except you have to send it out and it takes weeks.
Since then I bought and use the MACKIE dfx12.  Much better overall enough said.
Sold the Vocopro to another KJ I know...explained what he was getting.

Recently a few months ago against my better judgment I bought one of their cheap players for a back up -model VP10 or something It was $90 and it is serving its purpose but it is cheezy as far as quality goes.   Besides having a bad reputation most of their PRO LINE of equipment is way over priced .  Theire new cdg900 dual player again is CONCEPTUALLY one of the BEST KARAOKE PLAYERS AVAILABLE....

Quality and Price make it a NOT TO BUY

Yep:

Went to a show the other night and the KJ was complaining that the left drawer on his Vocopro stopped working.  It's been in the shop a couple times already.  I always kid him about Vocopro gear.  I'm pretty sure he will not be investing more money into Vocopro.  It's just too expensive for what you get.

Just my two cents

I own a vocopro dvd-780k, and have a few complains about it, see my post.
However it's fair to mention it has some unique features and overall it plays well.
Now after read all the posts here  I'm afraid my unit is going to break anytime soon, I didn't buy any warranty from guitar center and thinking seriously to exchange it for another karaoke player. Also for $300 it wasn't particularly cheap.

let's see...

you have a vocopro, and have some complaints about it.

Yet are still going to get another one in place of this one...

all because of some nice features it currently has.

Ohhh-Kayyy!

Sound like he wants to get a different player, although he does like some of the features on the VP.

Ya know, when it comes to VocoTrash, there really isn't ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING,  bad that I wouldn't say to anyone in regards to their products, their reps, their entire concept of interaction, problem solving, or good busness practices in general  !! I was on the receiving end of their corporate crap shoot, and it amazed me that 4 people tried to answer a simple question, ( why does the digital key changer reset on its own DURING a selection.....shouldn't happen....EVER!!) and I got four different answers UNTIL one of the "higher-ups" informed me that the chip that governed that process had a auto reset built into it and they would have to reconfigure the cpu to ignore that auto command. So were they gonna do that? NO!
It was not financially feasable for them to take the time or make the effort to remedy a problem that was prevalent when the unit (7000 mixer) first went into production......and they knew it???!!!!

Just had to put this "comment" here. 8)

Post subject:  Re: Some dislike Vocopro....but I like the player I picked up from them.

I returned my vocopro dvx-780k and have to say good bye to a nice set of features as divx 6.xx support, said good bye also to  the software(3 total) I bought to ripp cd+g songs but wasn't going to take any risk not after read all the posts here. I simply can't take any chance to fail on live again. Even with the performance warranty my local dealer offered me once, but think about this hipotetical situation, my unit breaks and have to send to vocopro or any authorize dealer to repair it, what I'm suppose to do, until get my new unit...go a spend another $300 and have a spare unit for the time being...ridiculous...

But have to be fair with vocopro and with my conscience as well.

They sent me a karaoke set(6 cd's) didn't come with mine unit when requested for free...
When asked them about a resolution limit issue, the kindly resolve my situation..
They just ignored my last email, but let's give them the benefit of doubt. Let's assume they didn't get it.
And when explained them about my issue, they rapidly asked me to send the bad one and exchange it for a "brand new unit"

However Who guarantee my new replacement is going to be "deffective free"??

I wouldn't mind to spend the money to get even a pioneer dv-555,unfortunately guitar center didn't have that and All the offered me was the RSQ-NEO E500.
I just want a well constructed quality and "defective free" player. period.

Is that too much to ask for?

Post subject:  Re: Some dislike Vocopro....but I like the player I picked up from them.

The auto reset of the key changer is a good thing.  However, it is only practical when the key changer is integrated with the player (as in the JVC).  As anyone who has used this player knows, the key changer will reset when you change tracks or discs.  I have seen the Vocopro stand alone key changer reset in the middle of a singer's performance.  It usually occurs during a lull in the music or a drop in the tempo.  However, this behavior is unacceptable.  I have also witnessed that same unit changing keys when no change was selected.  On the other hand, it is easy to forget to reset your key changer manually and not notice it until the next song has already started.  Hopefully, it is noticed before the signer starts and then you need to restart the song in the correct key.   I remember doing a party a while back and a buddy of mine sang and changed the key.  I sang a familiar song next and it took me a good 30-50 seconds before I figured out that he had lowered the key on the mixer amp.  I did not even think to check this as I usually used the JVC's key changer.  As far as key changing goes,  it's so much easier to use the JVC player.

Cheers

I'm so glad people are discovering how terrible Vocotrash products really are. Yes you might get a good one, if you're very lucky, but their track record speaks for itself. As far as a key changer is concerned, I use the Gemini KM 707 mixer for KJing and have NEVER had a problem with this particular unit or the built in digital key changer. So much so that I looked around and got another one for my home system, AND, another one for back up....just in case :D
Hopefully more people will realize the personal and financial downfall of buying over priced, unreliable equipment such as Vocotrash, and hopefully, a more significant company such as Numark or Gemini will produce a mixer that caters to the KJ. And why not, they both make great mixers specifically for the DJ. Gemini used to to make one for KJ's and Numark is finally getting into this aspect of the market with their cdn-25+g. Nice unit. Only draw back is the need for an A/B switch to go from tray to tray in cdg mode and no digital key changer. Also, Gemini is coming out with one simular to Numarks BUT will have the built in switch and key changer. Should be interesting!!
Okay, ranted enough. You all have a great day, and a long and happy life :hi5: !

Post subject:  Re: Some dislike Vocopro....but I like the player I picked up from them.

3 months later and this player is still going strong.  I've seen a lot of negative posts but I like this player.  I've had no problems with it other than the load time for a CD is a bit slow (maybe ten seconds after disc insertion compared to 4 seconds on my laptop) but it was still a decent purchase in my eyes.  I'm not saying it's the best player made, but for the money I spent it has some good compatibility (plays the Cavs discs just fine) and hasn't broke down, or shown any signs of breaking down.

On a different subject, ack too much hate in this thread!
